Job Duties

  • Develop, implement and manage projects focused on improving business processes related to the development, maintenance, access and use of databases and reporting systems such as document management, work program management, scheduling and estimating systems.
  • Develop and introduce new or modified processes or systems which requires working with various groups and working between the groups to solve controversial problems regarding different requirements arising in the various settings and assuring cooperation and agreement for implementation of new procedures and systems.
  • Identify and document business requirements for information systems and processes and revisions in a manner to facilitate proposals from internal/external parties in order to support and meet the user's needs.
  • Provide training and ongoing user support and ensure the efficient daily operation of the systems for which the department is responsible, including necessary software maintenance. Provide coordination of all software changes and upgrades and user testing and training to ensure that required functions are correctly delivered.
  • Be responsible for data integrity and validation associated with databases, including identification and resolution of issues. Manage projects requiring support from service groups outside the department. Work with staff to develop, populate and maintain databases that allow for consistent use of data across Operations.
  • Take a lead role in the development and production of database system guidelines, recommending changes needed to meet the business needs from field and head office users of system functions and reports. Work with other stakeholders to ensure policies will be accepted and followed by field and head office staff. Initiate and prepare revisions, as required.
  • Work with vendors, manufacturers or suppliers to explain the failure or inadequacies of their products or services and work with them to comply with operating requirements.
  • Coordinate the testing, developing and supplying of special components.
  • Requires assigning and checking of work, and providing advice and guidance to other staff, when assigned from time to time by supervisor to assist in projects.
  • Perform other duties as required

Selection Criteria

Education:


  • Requires a knowledge of business administration and computer science to perform system analysis on information systems.
  • Requires a knowledge of computer system development and current technological trends with respect to computer software and hardware.
  • Requires a good knowledge of English both written and verbal to communicate effectively with others and in the preparation of technical reports.

Experience:


  • Requires an understanding of business processes and data modeling to provide effective support of information and systems.
  • Requires experience with various complex data sources.
  • Requires experience in the use of various software tools and methods such as Structured Query Language (SQL) or equivalent query tools.
  • Requires experience with the various databases and platforms to prepare specifications for development, alteration, testing, user training, utilization and population of database repositories.
  • Requires an understanding of the information systems and databases used both internal and external to the business.
Some travel will be required to support this position
