Responsibilities:


Lab Management:

  • Manages lab operations and actively works to maintain an efficient, clean, safe, and wellorganized laboratory.
  • Works with the R&D and manufacturing teams to understand laboratory needs, to understand current laboratory workflows and future R&D plans, looking for opportunities for continuous improvements.
  • Works with the quality team to ensure lab operations align with the company's quality goals.
  • Actively works to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees concerning day to day lab operations to establish and improve processes to support all lab operational functions.
  • Assists with forecasting of research general budget and managing lab operations budgets.

Lab Equipment, Supplies & Services:

  • Manages all laboratory facility operations, equipment, and scheduling, including general preventative maintenance, installations, general repairs, shutdowns, and upkeep of the facility, keeping clear service records of all work performed.
  • Contributes to the planning, projection and identification of space requirements for equipment, and consults with key stakeholders to ensure input from all vested parties. Ensures plans comply with relevant safety regulations.
  • Responsible for requesting service agreements and quotes and generating purchase requests for lab facility services and maintenance, as well as services such as lab coats, gas supplies, waste pickups, and calibrations.
  • Manages equipment monitoring and acts as the first point of contact (on call) for any equipment alarms.
  • Implements, oversees, and controls inventory system used to monitor the usage of reagents and consumables, ensuring reagents and consumables are properly stocked and documentation is in place.
Lab Safety & Best Practices

  • Participates on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and, in collaboration with committee members, ensures lab practices support compliance with WorkSafeBC and other related regulations. Ensures that concerns and incidents are escalated, as appropriate.
  • Ensures lab licenses are in place and remain active.
  • Participates in the review of safety guidelines and SOPs, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. Assists with the rollout and implementation of related safety programs.
  • Manages the laboratory safety orientation program for new hires as well as the annual refresher training for all scientific staff. Tracks and ensures that safety training is delivered to all employees that have access to the lab.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with a focus in a Scientific area or Health & Safety, and a minimum of 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Indepth experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech laboratory and technical proficiency, knowledge of daytoday activities in a crossfunctional laboratory environment.

Skills and Abilities:


  • Has a strong grasp of Occupational Health and Safety and WorkSafeBC.
  • Knowledge of workplace hazards, controls & general safety principles.
  • Strong project management capabilities, including developing and managing timelines, budgets, and risks.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a crossfunctional team.
  • Effective problemsolving skills and the ability to recognize and anticipate problems and connect groups to solve problems as they arise.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to balance input and needs from various stakeholders while maintaining best practices in the lab.
  • Selfstarter with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Previous pharmaceutical and/or laboratory experience is preferred.

Pay:
$60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
