Organization Overview:

Stepping Stone is a community-based agency that believes in the Housing First philosophies and practices.

We strive to improve the quality of life for people who are struggling with chronic homelessness, significant mental health issues and substance misuse.

We offer this by providing shelter support and supportive, affordable housing to our participants with individualized, participant-driven support plans.

The Stepping Stone team collaborates with community services within Guelph-Wellington to help support these plans and to offer our participants wrap-around supports as needed.


Job Summary:


Reporting to the Executive Director, The Fundraising and Events Coordinator is engaged in all aspects of the organization's communications (marketing, and social media) and fundraising efforts with an expertise on social media content development.

Their role is to work with the Executive Director to liaise with prospective donors and steward existing donor relations, ensuring visibility and a positive community reputation for the organization.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


  • Postsecondary education in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing & Communications, Fundraising, Public Relations or equivalent.
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment required.
  • Experience working in an environment that offers individualized support services to those who have experienced mental health challenges, addictions and trauma is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of project management, strategic communications planning, fundraising principles, and targeted message development.
  • Proficient user of existing and emerging new social media tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate messages in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Superior proofreading and editing skills.
  • Detail oriented and extremely well organized.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Creativity and persuasion skills.
  • Proficiency with the donation platform Kindful would be considered an asset.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Design, create and oversee the production of electronic communications for social media and external platforms related to fundraising events/communication.
  • Oversee the creation/execution of video content for social media and presentations.
  • Community meetings with other partners as required.
  • Working with the Executive Director to develop donor stewardship strategies.
  • Coordinating major fundraising campaigns, and other special projects.
  • Work with Executive Director re: planning and tactics for strengthening stakeholder relationships.
  • Build and maintain positive volunteer and community partnerships.
  • Community Relations and volunteer management experience preferred. Ensure appropriate recognition is provided to all Volunteers, Donors, Sponsors and other supporters.
  • Provide administrative support and assist in the development and implementation of special projects.
  • Event planning and execution, as well as monitoring expenses and reporting.

Working Environment / Schedule:


  • 35 hours per week.
  • Work with clients and staff directly on the shelter site.
  • On site position.

Compensation and Benefits:


  • 7 paid sick days / year (on an accrual basis).
  • Extended Health & Dental benefit package available after (3) months of employment.
