POSITION OVERVIEW

The Fire & Life Safety Intern will be involved with development, design, inspection/audit, and administrative assistance activities to support LRI's consulting work for private and public sector projects.

Under the supervision of an assigned Mentor, the Fire & Life Safety Intern will assist on a variety of tasks related to Fire and Life Safety and Emergency Management services.

This position requires working closely with the Mentor and the department's consultants to assist the company's clients to develop and implement safety plans that satisfy the objectives that are required by applicable codes and standards.

This position is on-site at our office in downtown Toronto, with the potential for work from home opportunities. Some travel to sites in and around the GTA will be required. We are seeking an intern from May through to the end of August. This is a full time position, 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with Fire Safety Plan and Emergency Plan preparation
  • Assist in monitoring evacuation drills and producing reports
  • Assist in the review and interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Assist with Fire Code compliance reviews and audits
  • Assist with the design and coordination of fire safety training, drills, and exercises
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits
  • Assist with preparing Fire Warden training
  • Assist consultants when attending client meetings and meetings with Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Assist with proposal preparation
  • Travel to client sites as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently attending or recently graduated from a University or College program related to Fire Safety or Fire Protection
  • Interested in the fire protection, life Safety, and emergency management industry
  • Willing and able to familiarize yourself with the building, fire, life safety, and emergency management codes, standards, and best practices; Prior knowledge of and/or experience with the Ontario Fire Code is an asset
  • Technically oriented; good analytical and organizational skills; attention to detail; able to complete tasks and projects in established timelines
  • Selfstarter that exhibits a high level of initiative and resourcefulness
  • An individual with high standards who holds themselves accountable
  • Versatile and able to manage varying workloads
  • A real team player
  • Prior experience with AutoCAD is an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset
