Position Summary:

The Electrical Supervisor (Maintenance) serves as the lead electrical maintenance delivery resource for the electrical services unit.

This individual will provide specific focus on electrical maintenance implementation, budgeting, scheduling and quality control, and will be a key resource to the Electrical Service unit.

Supervision responsibilities may be shared with the other Electrical Supervisors including internal electricians performing installation/repair projects, as well as external consultants and contractors.


This will be a 'hands-on' position where the individual, when time permits, will perform duties of an Electrician, including after hours call response as required.


Primary Responsibilities:


Under general supervision, this position coordinates, leads and directs the daily workflow related to electrical maintenance implementation, including job scheduling, budgeting, commissioning, work assignments, quality control and safety.

The incumbent performs a full range of highly skilled and complex tasks to ensure the timely and cost effective execution of electrical maintenance on campus.

This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the principles and practices within the electrical trade.

Work is substantially complex and varied, and requires the interpretation of technical and detailed guidelines, policies and procedures in combination.

This position requires the incumbent to set priorities, evaluate results and coordinate the work of others in the electrical trade, which involves scheduling, supervision and inspection/evaluation of work as a first-line supervisor.

This role will involve extensive coordination and collaboration with the other trades within Facilities Management and those external to the University.

Development of accurate budgets, scope and schedule, and coordination of resources to meet objectives is critical to the success of this position.

Performs all functions of the electricians, and other duties as required.

Position Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Grade 1
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Electrical Journeyperson certificate and/or valid Interprovincial Electrical Journeyperson's Certificate combined with a minimum of seven years commercial and industrial experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation of High Voltage distribution systems and industrial electrical construction and maintenance. Must have (Qualified Electrical Worker Certification);
  • Knowledge of principles and components found in electronic control and microprocessing devices;
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in electrical work. Ensures all employees and contractors are in compliance with the University of Regina Electrical Safety Program;
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC);
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in electrical work is required;
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments;
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the operations of Electrical Crew;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures;

  • Ability to perform work at heights, in confined spaces, in emergency and hazardous situations.
Physical Demands

May be required to work overtime and weekends; may be required to work various shifts. Will be required to be on the call out schedule for emergency after hour calls. Physical activity is a primary part of the job. Requires the ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds.

Work will be performed at heights, in crawl spaces, on rooftops and will include the use of ladders and powered mobile lifts.
