Plumber, Facilities Services:
Required Position:
Full-Time Appointment
Forty (40) hour work week
This position is designated as one that requires a different work week and/or hours of work. Upon 4 weeks' notice, the work week and/or hours of work may be changed. This may include evenings and/or weekend shifts.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager of Trades, the incumbent will perform plumbing maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair and/or renovation of buildings, facilities and equipment in one or more of the following areas: building piping, fixtures, building equipment and controls. He/she will inspect buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain needed repairs and make recommendation/follow up to supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs work in any or all categories:
- Building piping including but not limited to heating, chilled and domestic water, sanitary and other drain lines, air/gas and vacuum lines, other piping systems typically installed at Laurentian University;
- Fixtures including but not limited to faucets, toilets, traps, drains, water fountains and other similar devices;
- Pipe and tubing joining including but not limited to silver brazing, soldering, threading, compression joints, flaring and other methods common to the trade;
- Building equipment including but not limited to heating boilers, chillers, air handlers, hydronic loops, heat exchangers, pumps and other equipment;
- Controls including but not limited to the campus building automation systems, meters, valves, actuators, valves, regulators, safety devices, and other components necessary to properly control liquid, gas and air systems;
- Maintains, repairs and installs building plumbing systems, components, fixtures and/or equipment in accordance with established work order system, service calls or specific assignments by supervisor. Performs work to manufacturer's specifications, departmental guidelines, trade practices, construction drawings, shop drawings and schematics;
- Operates the campus building automation systems. Maintains, troubleshoots and devises control strategies to ensure maximum comfort and energy savings;
- Inspects buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain required repairs and makes recommendations to supervisor;
- Reports discrepancies and/or follow ups to supervisor;
- Performs duties and responsibilities with view toward departmental goals, energy conservation and support of academic, research and institutional goals;
- Reads and interprets construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, schematic specifications and other reference materials to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures;
- Assist with maintaining files of utility and buildings systems diagrams generated from field investigations;
- Prepares and submits requisitions for materials required to complete assigned tasks. Plan work to ensure cost effective use of labor and materials;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a plumber;
- Skill in maintenance and repair procedures and techniques typical in the trade;
