Under the general supervision of the Department Manager and day-to-day direction from the Academic Counsellor, the Student Support Assistant will be responsible for providing student services support; providing program support to courses; coordinating exams; coordinating TAships; maintaining records; reviewing and evaluating accommodation requests and academic offences; as well as providing administrative support.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Providing detailed information to students on program and/or course requirements
  • Acting as the first point of contact for programrelated enquiries
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Liaising with contacts to facilitate collaboration on petitions and/or appeals cases
  • Handling the delivery of examination question booklets
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Writing routine documents and correspondence
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information

Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of related experience; preferably in an Academic environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and empathically with a diverse university student population.
  • Experience providing program administration including academic appeals, course enrolment, timetabling, course evaluations, grades, examinations and final oral examinations, and petitions.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining records and files
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and deal effectively with competing priorities.
  • Proficiency and experience in working with a student information system or comparable database (ROSI, Quercus, eMarks or similar student systems)

Assets (Nonessential):


  • Familiarity with the University of Toronto's policies, rules, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Experience in a University setting with knowledge of academic procedures and policies as well as guidelines and practices.

Lived Experience Statement

NOTE:
This is a part-time 50% FTE position. The pro-rated annual salary is $28,257 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $36,135

This is a 2-year term position with the possibility of renewal/extension.


This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto's Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.
