Newcomer Employment Specialist plays an integral role in the success of a newly anticipated Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership initiative, "Newcomer360 Career Connect".

We are seeking an energetic team member who can proactively connect with newcomer talent and actively promote Sarnia-Lambton employment opportunities.

The role provides support to newcomer jobseekers in Ontario by connecting them with resources and employment opportunities in Sarnia-Lambton.


Direct support will be provided to newcomers in various ways such as but not limited to; assistance in job searching skills, connecting talent to local employment resources, interview preparation; establishing connections with job seekers and local employers, and hosting networking events and resources with newcomer job seekers.


The objectives of the role are to secure employment opportunities with local employers and newcomers by strengthening workforce networks, promoting Lambton County as a great place to live and work, and providing employment services to job seekers.

The position reports to the Economic Development Officer - Workforce Attraction.

This is position is a full-time contract role until approximately March 30, 2027.

Duties and Responsibilities

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conduct proactive outreach to newcomers across Ontario.
  • Be responsive to project participant needs and inquiries.
  • Provide service to newcomers to enhance networking & job searching techniques.
  • Develop and implement a marketing campaign to promote the program to newcomers and connect with Lambton County employers.
  • Host interactive employer & talent events.
  • Raise awareness and promote the program throughout the community.
  • Empower job seekers who face high barriers of entry into the workforce to facilitate networking opportunities with employers.
  • Enhance partnerships with Sarnia-Lambton's key stakeholders to improve the capacity of the community to respond to indemand sectors and to strengthen the local talent pipeline.
  • Assist with carrying out a plan of action alongside the project coordinator to achieve the predetermined goals and targets in accordance with the terms of the government funding agreement.

Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION

  • A Degree/Diploma in Human Resource/Business or a combination of education and experience in a relevant discipline working with rural and urban businesses.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years experience with employment consulting, recruitment, human resources, or a related position.
  • Proficiency with client case management and building exceptional relationships.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication (oral/written & proactive/reactive) skills to interact effectively with clients, target audiences, and the public are all essential.
  • Excellent organizational, project management and time management skills including the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with tact and diplomacy, exercise discretion and judgement at all times.
  • Considered an asset to have knowledge of Federal immigrations programs.
  • Considered an asset to have a knowledge of barriers of entry job seeks face for into the workforce.
  • A valid Ontario driver's license and use of a vehicle.
