POSITION OBJECTIVE
Bethesda's Adult Clinical Services requires one Full Time Contract Speech & Language Pathologist.


Working to promote Bethesda's values, vision and mission statement, The Speech & Language Pathologist will be responsible for conducting assessments, implementing intervention plans and staff training for adults with intellectual disabilities who are referred to our service, as well as community education.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct assessments and identify treatment goals/recommendations and number of service hours independently.
  • Present assessment results, clinical recommendations and treatment reports to caregivers and community partners when appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical treatment plans and update as necessary.
  • Support adults engaging in risk behaviour while remaining calm, neutral, and effectively using crisis management intervention strategies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of group and individual treatment programs targeting speech, language, augmentativealternative communication (AAC), fluency, and social communication goals.
  • Provide individual treatment services with clinical supervision.
  • Review service options with new referrals.
  • Provide coaching and support to Caregivers, Community Partners, Clinical Team Members, and Students.
  • Collaborate with Community Partners and Interdisciplinary Team Members.
  • Investigate ideas and plan the integration of engaging community activities into service options.
  • Develop resources and program materials.
  • Maintain client records and complete documentation as required.
  • Facilitates appropriate internal and community referrals.
  • Coordinate scheduling with Manager, Adult Clinical Services.
  • Develop and facilitate training opportunities for Clinical staff, and Community Partners.
  • Facilitate Caregiver Workshops.
  • Write Reports, Programs and Service Plans independently.
  • Actively participate in administrative team meetings.
  • Collect and analyze data.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and provide suggestions, creative ideas and recommendations for strengthening service.
  • Comply with Bethesda policies and procedures relating to health and safety.
  • Responsible for reporting all health and safety concerns immediately following the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in the field of communications, disorders and sciences, from an accredited university.
  • Registration with the College of Speech Language Pathologists & Audiologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in speech and language pathology.
  • Knowledge and experience communicating in sign language is an asset.
  • Experience working with clients with developmental disabilities is an asset.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • First Aid Training and CPR Certification.
  • Professional Communication Skills: professionally represents the company through strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Teamwork: excels at working with others and communicating with a team to provide the most effective support to clients.
  • Problem-Solving: able to navigate challenges and barriers, always looks for potential pitfalls and risks to help mitigate problems ahead of time, and knows when to ask for help.
  • Proactive: anticipates and solves problems and issues before they are brought to your attention.
  • Fluent in French an Asset
