Be the Spark Join our passionate YMCA team as a Youth STEM Instructor and help us to achieve great things in our community This is a part-time, term position Wednesday evenings beginning April 17, 2023-June 18th, 2023.

The YMCA of Saskatoon is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. The Y provides a variety of health, fitness, recreation, and community programs.

The centre offers these programs and services to its members and the community, including children, youth and adults who represent the diversity of Saskatoon and its communities.

The YMCA Youth STEM instructor will provide guidance and programming in the areas of Sciente, Technology, Engineering and Math


In this role, you will:


  • Deliver appropriate programming and activities in the area of STEM programming
  • Increase participants confidence and competency in creative activities in a supervised and safe setting.
  • Develops and implements weekly lesson plans or activities.
  • Recognizes participant learning styles and delivers/leads content and activities accordingly.
  • Coaches and develops participants in an inclusive manner
  • Takes attendance, ensures participants are signed into and out of the program.
  • Sets up and takes down recreational, program and other equipment as required
  • In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assists and encourages program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, their families, and other staff members.
  • Be always responsible for the safety and security of all participants in your care following the YMCA Policies and Procedures
  • Learn and enjoy a wide range of creative skills, including a variety of science experiments
  • Performs other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members as assigned from time to time by supervisor

You bring:


  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C
  • Ability to encourage and motivate participants
  • Evidence continuing professional development in working with children and youth
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedules

  • Current clear criminal record check with the vulnerable sector search will be a condition of hiring
