On behalf of our client, we are searching for a Controller to join their finance team.

Reporting directly to the CEO, and VP of Operations, you will be responsible for all finance related aspects of the business - management of the Accounting Clerk, financial statement review and analysis, cash flow management, and financial reporting and presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Review and oversight of daytoday accounting functions performed by Accounting Clerk, including biweekly payroll, vendor payments, monthly agreement invoicing.
  • Review of monthly financial reporting prepared by Accounting Clerk, including bank and credit card reconciliations, COGS reconciliations, monthly end accruals, month end adjustments for amortization, inventory, deferred revenue, prepaids, etc.
  • Preparation of financial projections, monitoring monthly budget vs. actual performance, and performing monthly variance and margin analysis.
  • Quarterly Service Leadership Index reporting.
  • Train and mentor Accounting Clerk.
  • Preparation and review of periodic government filings and remittances, including GST, PST, EHF, WCB, tax instalments.
  • Internal and external deadline management.
  • Cash flow and operating expense management.
  • Monthly invoicing, customer statements, and accounts receivable collection efforts.
  • Employee onboarding/offboarding, payroll, bonus calculations, and benefit administration.
  • Develop, update, and maintain internal financial controls and processes.
  • Develop and execute quarterly finance department objectives, with a view to improving efficiency and profitability.
  • Monthly financial presentation to Fractional Controller, CEO, and VP of Operations.
  • Monthly accounting for two related corporations (nominal activity), including bank and intercompany reconciliations, dividends, recording portfolio investment activity, GST reporting, tax instalments.
  • Preparation of year end for external accountants.
  • Participation as a member of the leadership team, including weekly meetings, quarterly and annual strategic planning.
  • Preparation of annual budget with input from leadership and team members.
  • Proactively seek out opportunities to streamline processes, drive efficiencies, and reduce costs.

Skills & Qualification

  • 45 years experience in an internal senior accountant position or a similar role, ideally with public practice experience.
  • Post secondary education in accounting/finance. CGA designation is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organized manages their own and others' schedules with ease.
  • Adaptable to changing processes, competing deadlines, and fastpaced environments.
  • Comfortable with computers and technology; intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to conduct research and create reports or presentations.
