About the Opportunity:


The Secretary II reports to the Health Services Manager/Health Lead Primary Health Care and works as a member of the health care team providing primary health care services to patients and families.

The main purpose of this position is to support healthcare providers by positively interacting with the public; screening and prioritizing incoming and outgoing patient related documentation, scheduling patient appointments for new and existing patients to the clinic, arranging patient follow up; ensuring complete and accurate billing; transcribing dictation; and ensuring effective, efficient medical office administration by optimizing use of the electronic patients record system.

Travel will be required with this position.

The position will help address and build capacity to support our response to the Mass Casualty Commission's final report recommendations, relevant to Primary Health Care.


About You:


  • Successful completion of a medical office administration program required
  • Demonstrated proficiency and 1 year experience in MSI billing processes required
  • Extensive experience in electronic communication (including but not limited to) Microsoft Word, Access and Outlook required
  • Demonstrated competence in verbal and written communication and public relations skills required
  • Experience with the Need a Family Practice Registry is an asset
  • Minimum one year experience in a health care setting required; experience working in a multidisciplinary, multidoctor family practice medical office preferred.
  • Medical Terminology course with working knowledge gained through recent and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect and maintain confidentiality of all health care information.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and work as a team member.
  • Ability to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a proactive member of a multidisciplinary primary health care team.
  • Superior written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Selfmotivated, adaptable, resourceful, flexible and able to work with mínimal supervision.
  • Able to think critically and problem solve.
  • Understanding of the principles of Primary Health Care.
  • Customer service orientated, ensuring all staff, patients, and members of the public are treated courteously, professionally and with respect.
  • Supports and delivers quality patient safety standards within the health authority.
  • Responsible for contributing to the achievement of the health authority's accreditation standards.
  • Reliable transportation is required for work assignment
