Overview
The City is currently seeking two resourceful Commanders for Cornwall SDG Paramedic Services.
The Commander, Paramedic Services, is responsible for the supervision of on-road medics and developing relations with internal and external partners to support the monitoring and evaluation of Cornwall SDG Paramedic Services.
This includes training, coaching, emergency operations, public relations and general administrative duties of the Paramedic Service.Reporting to the Deputy Chiefs, The Commander, Paramedic Services is responsible in ensuring the proper execution of the following:
- Provide guidance and support to assigned platoon to ensure efficient service is maintained at all times
- Collaborate with dispatch team, hospital staff and other community agencies to support medics and patients
- Ensure the wellbeing of staff is at the forefront of all decisions, including addressing all occupational health and safety issues
- Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to writing reports, investigating internal and external inquires, and partaking in investigations as required
- Contribute to future planning initiatives by identifying areas of improvement, work collaboratively in a team to make recommendations and develop implementation and evaluation processes.
- Ensure all applicable operating policies and procedures are understood and implemented
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Current certification as a Primary Care Paramedic or Advanced Care Paramedic and be qualified by the Ambulance Act and Regulations to work in an ambulance in Ontario with a minimum of five (5) years recent experience
- Demonstrate knowledge and competency of Ambulance System, BLS/ALS Patient Care standards, relevant policies and procedures, Standards, Acts and Regulations
- Current CPR certification
- Possess or have the ability to possess immunization and communicable disease report including proof of Covid19 vaccinations
- Knowledge of the community paramedic program and capability to provide direction in line with program objectives
- Emergency management understanding and training
- Must be available to work regular rotating shifts
- Possess excellent interpersonal; communication, computer and organizational skills
- Be able to perform and adapt well under stressful situations
- Must have a Current 'F' class Ontario Driver's License or equivalent
- Bilingualism will be considered an asset
