Compensation Range

Job Summary


The Department of Psychiatry is one of the larger departments in the Faculty of Medicine (FoM) with over 1,000 department members including full time and clinical faculty, academic visitors, fellows, student employees and staff in varying job families and classifications, in addition to volunteers and others working in clinical and research environments.

The Department's medical education programs are some of the most widely distributed within the Faculty of Medicine with faculty appointees and trainees located within all six (6) Health Authorities.

Funding within the Department, supporting positions and activities, is a mix of operating funds, clinical alternative payment program funds, significant research grant and donation funding, endowments, education program funding as well as external partnership funding.


The Projects Manager is responsible for the development, management, and completion of projects that will support the smooth operational effectiveness and strategic direction and decision making of the Department.

The incumbent will manage a number of diverse projects of various size, complexity and risk, and will assume responsibility for their successful completion.

Such projects include, but are not limited, to education, strategic plan initiatives and administration.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Director, Administration. Work is assigned by the Director, Administration. Work closely with Director, Administration, and Department Leaderships. May receive work direction from Department Head and the Department Executive Team as required and needed.

Work as part of the Department's Administrative team and meeting regularly with the Director of Administration and other administrative staff.


This position liaises with faculty, students and staff within the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine (FoM) units, UBC central units, external agencies and personnel such as health authorities, various levels of government, other academic, funding and international organizations, and other stakeholders.

This position will be required to work flexible hours.

Work Performed- Manages concurrently a number of Department projects and assumes responsibility for their successful completion.

Portfolio will include projects derived from the Strategic Plan, Administration and Education as assigned by Director, Administration.- Works with stakeholders to define priorities, develops detailed project plans that include: defining project scope and objective; scheduling, monitoring and reporting on progress.- Takes projects from initial concepts to completion; manages project activities, follows up on action items and deliverables to ensure completion, and keeps the project on track and focused on achieving the intended outcome.- Develops positive and productive working relationships with stakeholders and manages day-to-day communications with stakeholders, keep them informed of project status, scope changes, and milestone achievements; responds to concerns related to projects.- Plans and facilitates projects meetings, develops agendas, attends meetings with a focus on tracking decisions and action items for follow up and to complete.- Ensures that upon projects completion, all knowledge and documents, such as operational procedure manual, will be created and transferred to project sponsors and other designated stakeholders.- Researches, synthesizes and compiles information from multiple sources into summaries and reports required by the Department.- Interacts with faculty members, staff, students and all others in a professional manner.
