Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) is the lead coordinating Ministry in the provincial government for all emergency management activities.

As such, EMCR's mission is to be responsible to British Columbians for leading the management of provincial level emergencies and disasters and supporting other authorities within their areas of jurisdiction.

EMCR works directly with local governments, First Nations, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, other jurisdictions, industry and volunteers in hazard mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.


The Public Alerting Training and Engagement Specialist is a provincial level expert responsible for the development and implementation of training and partner engagement for the province-wide emergency alerting system in support of EMCR, First Nations, local authorities, partners, broadcasters, and telecommunications companies.


Job Requirements:


  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, public administration, public policy, communications, education, social sciences, or a related field and 2 years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in business administration, public administration, public policy, communications, education, social sciences, or a related field and 3 years of related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience must include:

  • Experience in the development and delivery of training, training tools and curriculum.
  • Experience establishing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in the development of program administration and implementation.
  • Experience in virtual training delivery.
  • Experience providing adult education.
  • Work oncall and extended hours during emergencies and disasters.
  • Travel to other regions.
  • Meet the transportation requirements of the Ministry, i.e. maintain and possess a valid Class 5 BC driver's licence.

About this Position:

There is currently a temporary opportunity until December 31, 2023. This opportunity may be extended and/or a permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and temporary opportunities.
