Location/Division-Specific Information:

This position is within the Genetic Sciences Division (GSD) a division of the Life Sciences Group.

Genetic Sciences enables genomic discoveries and decisions through our innovative genetic analysis technologies, workflows, and services in the fields of cancer research, human identification, animal health and Agri-genomics, reproductive health, and molecular diagnostics.

How will you make an impact?


Overall this leadership position plays a crucial role in providing insight that will help shape the divisions go to market strategy and will play a key role to planning and execution.

This role will drive the execution to build long term business stability and revenue trajectory in the genetic sciences marketplace such that we enhance our market positions both now and in the long term.


What will you do?

  • Provide insight to shape and execute global business development strategies aligned with GSDs goals and objectives.
  • Build and develop strong teams that meet the elevated expectations of our customers and Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Collaborate closely with all GSD business units to identify potential new market opportunities, partnerships, and strategies globally to expand our funnels and existing GSD revenue positions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both external and internal key stakeholders, including GSD business General Managers, industry partners, global funding agencies and potential customers and clients.
  • Guide teams through large deal negotiations, licensing agreements and or other business deals, ensuring favorable terms for the GSD and the company.
  • Cross functional collaboration partner with key functions, research and development, marketing, legal to align with business development activities overall.
  • Be a key contributor to the global commercial leadership team and engage with regional leadership to build support of BD activates to drive sales.
  • Interact successfully to expand the business large deal funnel by leveraging the GSD sales process, in collaboration with the commercial and technical sales (TSS) teams.
  • Achieve and continuously aim to exceed AOP targets.

Leadership Responsibilities:


  • Accountability for profitable revenue growth in GSD by ensuring the right short and longterm growth strategy, organizational structure, talent development, and the appropriate operating mechanism to measure outcomes.
  • Effectively communicates with colleagues, global leadership team and management on progress against objectives and future plans for driving performance.
  • Collaborate with other Thermo Fisher organizations to leverage existing capabilities and resources.

Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree, or higher, in Genetic Science, Biochemistry and/or Microbiology, epidemiology (alternatively MD, PhD with a molecular research focus) preferred.
  • 10+ years of direct experience selling to the Biotech industry with 5+ years leading high performing global teams.
  • Proven ability to successfully lead and motivate commercial organizations in diverse market areas.
  • Proven history of building high performing teams.
  • Proven successful sales results, with a high degree of documented budget achievement.
  • Ability to sell at the Executive level.
  • Experience from working in the biotech marketplace is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • An entrepreneurial drive to reach success, especially the ability and persistence to open new large accounts for long term business relationships.
  • A high degree of selfmotivation, with the desire to build a new business.
  • A collaborator that understands collaboration is key to success in a competitive environment.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills and diligence in documenting the sales process.
  • Experience selling complex projects to the biotech industry.
  • Ability to travel 50%
