    Position Summary
  • Reporting to the Dean and under the direction of the Practical Nursing (PN) and Health Care Assistant (HCA) program Department Chair and Learning Centre Coordinator, the Learning Centre Support Assistant provides operational and equipment support to the Learning Centre Coordinator, PN and HCA faculty, students.
  • The Learning Centre Support Assistant is a vital member of the PN department and is responsible for maintaining the Health Labs equipment and inventory; monitoring borrowing of equipment and supplies; assisting with setup and cleanup of equipment for weekly Health Lab activities; and providing clerical support for ordering and receiving of supplies and equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • 1. Collaborates with the PN and HCA departments to maintain a safe, operational and learnerfriendly environment in the Health Labs.
2.

Assist PN and HCA faculty and the PN Learning Centre Coordinator with organizing and preparing equipment and supplies for faculty and student use.

3.

Carries out preventative and intervention maintenance of equipment, supplies, human patient simulators, and various technology support utilized by the program, in collaboration with the PN Learning Centre Coordinator.

4. Organizes and maintain the tidiness of the lab and supply storage facilities.
5. Maintains the inventory of a broad range of resource materials and supplies including inventory databases for the Health Labs.
6. Provides support for researching, ordering, receiving and cataloguing equipment and supplies.
7. Delivering and picking up of equipment as required.

In collaboration with the PN Learning Centre Coordinator, PN/HCA Department Chairs, and faculty, organize borrowing and lending of equipment as necessary with students, other programs at the College and with practice agencies.

9. Schedules remedial sessions and drop-in bookings by students and faulty.
10. Schedules external bookings of the Health Labs.
11. Monitors student and faculty borrowing of equipment from the Health Labs.
12. Monitors student use of the Health Labs outside of scheduled classes.
13. Maintains Student Resource Library including pertinent agency documents. Provides clerical support to the PN Learning Centre Coordinator as required
14. Preparation documentation, labeling of supplies and equipment for weekly Health Labs and assessment activities.
15. Supports Learning Centre Coordinator with programing and calibration of simulation equipment.
16.

Course materials (print based and learning management system based) which includes layout design, formatting, copy, editing, and preparing course materials for the learning management system and course delivery, with updating and maintaining all term forms.

17. Preparing and maintaining human patient simulators and providing technical support for faculty during all simulation activities.
Required Education & Experience

  • Completion of an Office Administration Assistant certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 yearsexperience in clerical support, organizing and preparing health care equipment and supplies for scheduled and nonscheduled simulations in a Health Lab
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience in a nursing centre or equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. (for example, HCA, LPN, RPN, MOA, Simulation Technologist).

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of various medical supplies and equipment, and of purchasing practices is an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks, and efficiently meet deadlines.
