The Role:

The People & Culture Generalist is responsible for providing day-to-day support to employees and managers.

This role administers the HR function and activities of the organization by providing support for payroll processing, employee relations, regulatory compliance, benefits management, policy development and interpretation, as well as assists with special projects as required.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Be a preliminary point of contact for managers for employee relations issues
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of weekly payroll for union employees, and be a backup for the processing of semimonthly payroll for salaried employees
  • Complete monthly remittances for WSIB for union employees
  • Prepare monthly union dues and fees for payment
  • Assist with the administration of company benefits including, but not limited to enrollment and termination
  • Ensuring general maintenance and accuracy of employee data while executing HR transactions the HRIS (e.g., new hires, promotions, departures, and pay, title and reporting relationship changes)
  • Track employee vacation and sick time
  • Track and coordinate employee policy acknowledgements and training requirements
  • Track equipment inventory and processing requests with the IT team
  • Assist with recruitment process by creating job descriptions, posting, and screening
  • Conduct employee onboarding and orientation to ensure smooth new hire transition
  • Support employee offboarding (e.g., leaves and terminations)
  • Assist with employee engagement and team building planning
  • Support HR policies and procedures development and monitor compliance with Federal and Provincial employment laws
  • Coordinate workplace health and safety committee duties and inspections
  • Create and maintain HR metrics reporting for senior management as required (e.g, recruitment reports, compensation analysis, regular payroll reports)
  • Seeks opportunities for continuous improvement within the HR function
  • Special HR projects and additional tasks as assigned by the People & Culture Manager

Required Skills and Qualifications:


  • University Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources, Business, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 3+ years of Human Resources and Payroll Administration experience
  • Proficiency in HR information systems and payroll software programs, ADP WFN experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and expertise in advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUP)
  • CHRP/CHRL and PCP designation (or in progress) considered an asset
  • Experience within a unionized environment an asset
  • Outstanding time management, organization, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage confidential information

  • Schedule: Permanent, Full-Time (8:30am to 5:00pm)
