What you'll do:


As part of the Accounting Summer Student Development Program placement, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Finance team and contribute to the various accounting functions.

This employment opportunity is designed to provide you with practice exposure to accounting operations, processes, programs, and initiatives.


Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • To perform reception duties in a timely, efficient and organized manner, including answering and directing calls, selling Coop Memberships and assisting customers and/or members as required.
  • Cash handling and balancing
  • Assist in preparing and distributing invoices and monthly statements
  • Assist in sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail and courier deliveries
  • Assist in Office inventory management (supplies, expense allocation etc.
  • Assist in recording financial transactions, maintaining general ledgers, reconciling accounts, monthend duties and inventory accounting; and ensuring accurate and organized financial records.
  • Assist in the preparation of journal entries/ledgers, fixed assets and inventory accounting.s
  • Assist with analyzing customer data, which may include financial statements, credit reports and trade data in comparison to industry standards and benchmarks for financial strength and credit worthiness to identify potential areas of concern or risk.
  • Handling outstanding customer invoices, writeoffs and journal entries, and distribution of reports.
  • Maintains organized records of inventory transactions, vendor payments, and customer invoices for audit purposes.
  • Assist in the ongoing tracking and analysis of key performance indicators for the business unit.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Finance and:

  • Have successfully completed a minimum of one-year post-secondary education in Business, Accounting/Finance or a related field from a recognized post-secondary educational institution.
  • Must be enrolled to continue in postsecondary for Fall 202
  • You are interested in a progressive career within the Cooperative Retailing System
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Proficiency with various computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information while maintaining discretion
  • You're honest and trustworthy, are resultsoriented and strive to be the best in what you do.
  • You believe in building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.
  • Previous cooperative retail experience is considered an asset
