Job Summary


Reporting to the Manager, Stakeholder and Community Engagement, this position is responsible for the support of company goals by engaging external stakeholders and communities in order to increase support for/reduce opposition to company initiatives through effective communication, positioning and consultation.

The Specialist is responsible for community relations related to service delivery-related initiatives, including airspace changes undertaken by NAV CANADA.

The Specialist will work with the Manager, Stakeholder and Community Engagement and the NAV CANADA airspace design teams, airports, and other stakeholders to assist in the design and execution of communications and consultation necessary when airspace changes impact noise exposure in communities surrounding airports.

The Specialist will provide support to the company's broader stakeholder relations effort, including support for targeted initiatives, coordination of engagement activities and assisting with position and strategy development on emerging issues and stakeholder engagement.

In this role you will:

  • Actively support Stakeholder and Industry Relations activities and participate on departmental and team projects, including but not limited to airspace change and strategic direction initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of support material and implementation of strategies for outreach activities that will enhance reception of NAV CANADA initiatives by stakeholders.
  • Participate in the development of community relations plans and stakeholder engagement strategies and create related communications materials working with internal partners.
  • Coordinate and schedule public consultations and community outreach on issues related to the Airspace Change Communications and Consultation Protocol.
  • Work with internal departments across regions to prepare materials for consultation that educate the public on the need for airspace change and provide transparency as to impact.
  • Draft responses to public concerns from residents, community groups and elected officials regarding airspace and aircraft noise issues and draft reports related to the consultation process.
  • Coordinate the work of outside contractors and internal partners for graphic design, events planning, noise modelling, and acoustical measurements where required.
  • Research issues/positions to provide material for analyses, briefing papers, status reports and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
  • This role may include occasional travel.

What you bring:

  • Community College Diploma or Undergraduate degree in an aviation related field. In lieu of the diploma/degree a combination of experience within the industry is acceptable.
  • Experience in communicating ideas succinctly and effectively.
  • Experience presenting technical information in a public setting.
  • Experience with operational air traffic service provision.
  • Experience in airline operations.
  • Experience drafting plans, strategies, briefing notes, messaging, and communications plans.
  • Knowledge of air traffic management procedures, techniques and equipment/technologies.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian airspace structure.
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada regulations related to air traffic service provision.
  • Knowledge of aircraft navigation and communication systems.
