    Currently, our Outage division has a Director, Outages opportunity. The Outage division is accountable for the preparation of forced and planned outage schedules in order to meet the goals and objectives of our preventative maintenance program and life-cycle management plan.

    The successful candidate will be a member of a small and dynamic team of Radiation Protection Professionals, within the larger department of Bruce A, Radiation Protection and Industrial Safety. You will provide general Health Physics support to the Bruce A Team, to ensure that all radiological work is properly planned and safely executed whilst maintaining dose as allow as reasonably achievable. Your specific accountabilities will include working with line management in the control of radiological hazards through proper planning and developing initiatives, and for providing guidance to employees and work groups on eliminating, controlling and reducing radiological hazards and risks. The ability to lead and influence others is important to be successful in this role.

    This is a rotational opportunity which may be for a period of up to 12 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Solve radiation safety problems arising in Bruce Power and assess on a continuing basis the effectiveness of such solutions.
  • Investigate non-routine radiation protection problems and make recommendations as to their resolution.
  • Interpret policy and procedures and provide technical assistance in health physics and provide information to assist in the approval of radiation protection methods and equipment.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling meetings as required to represent Radiation Protection standards.
  • Prepare routine reports on station radiological conditions and assist in the preparation of reports for outside regulatory authorities on the radiation protection program in the station.
  • Prepare or revise Radiation Protection Program documents.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A sound knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics, health physics or nuclear engineering and appropriate related mathematics as necessary to understand and apply radiation protection principles and theories
  • General knowledge of radiation protection principles and theories and of the design and operation of CANDU nuclear stations. Green/Yellow Radiation Protection Qualification an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, work on jobs with tight deadlines and conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others without having direct authority
  • Good facility in written and oral English to write procedures and reports, to deliver training and make presentations to all levels of staff
  • Preference for knowledge and skills in software management and development.
  • Education and Experience:

  • Four-year University Degree in the area of Science or Engineering or other relevant discipline (Health Physics, Medical Physics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Nuclear Engineering, Engineering Physics, etc.) is required.
