Description

This front-line position delivers and monitors healthy, age-appropriate programming for children and youth in their care/supervision, supporting a strong, healthy agency across the region.


KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Delivery:


  • Creates and delivers programming ensuring activities are safe, fun, age and developmentally appropriate for all clients.
  • Monitors and supports positive client behaviors in program to ensure maximum benefit to all participants. Develops a positive rapport with attendees. Actively participates in programs and activities with clients.
  • Takes a proactive approach to behaviour management issues.
  • Provides thorough program orientation, training and support to clients and their families.
  • Provides appropriate ongoing support and follow up to clients and families.
  • Delivers the program in a way that maintains consistency with the principles of the Youth HQ agency, National and/ or program standards.

Case Management:


  • Accepts referrals to program from potential clients, Child and Family Services Authority, Family School Wellness, and other community agencies.
  • Determines potential clients' needs and suitability to Youth HQ program.
  • If appropriate, registers client in program.
  • If inappropriate, refers to other community program or agency.
  • Monitors and continually assesses client needs and progress goals.
  • Completes required case documentation (reports, action plans).

Program Development:


  • Explores new initiatives that may enhance the Youth HQ program.
  • Provides programming ideas for children and youth, identifying their needs and opportunities, providing feedback on costs and potential benefits.

Community Relations:


  • Facilitates positive working relationships with all community children, youth and family stakeholders (RCMP, CFSA, Schools, FSW, others).
  • Keeps current with community resources, programs and agencies that could potentially assist clients and their families.
  • Assists with program promotion as requested and appropriate.

Volunteer Management:


  • Assists Volunteer Coordinator in Volunteer recruitment and screening as requested and appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate support and supervision to approved program volunteers and practicum students.

Additional Responsibilities:


  • Assists in training and orientation of new staff, volunteers, and practicum students.
  • Provides peer input on performance reviews, as requested and appropriate.
  • Participates on committees as needed.
  • Actively supports other Youth HQ staff, attending Team meetings regularly.
  • Supports Youth HQ agency in fundraising, special events, program duties, as requested and appropriate.
  • Keeps current with information relating to programs, the agency, and appropriate standards and licensing.
  • All Youth HQ staff have a role in marketing. Staff are informed of opportunities and needs across programs and look for ways to connect customers with relevant programs or volunteer roles.
  • Ensures that Health and Safety is a daily part of the work routine and issues are addressed promptly. Reports any issues immediately to supervisor.
  • Ensures spending is preapproved and fits within the approved budget/actual expenditures.
  • Assists in identifying any potential risks to program people (clients, staff, volunteers), property, finances, goodwill and image; recommends measures to address potential risks to the Team Leader.
  • Keep accurate records as assigned (i.e. volunteer hour tracking, child and youth attendance, surveys).
  • Ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the program space and program facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in social work, recreation, education, health, or a related field of human services, or a combination of experience in lieu thereof.
  • A minimum of one year experience in providing human support services to youth and/or families in culturally sensitive ways.
  • Current certificates or training obtained as agreed upon in employment contract.
  • Successful completion of agency screening including Criminal and Intervention Record Checks.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:


  • Knowledge of child and/or youth development and issues facing youth and families.
  • Knowledge community resources, agencies and services for children, youth, and families.
  • Ability to effectively listen and guide others in identifying and solving problems, using resources available to them.
  • Ability to communicate both in written form and verbally, to groups and individuals, including using the computer (Word, Outlook, Internet).
  • Ability to manage time well within a variety of roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to produce accurate and thorough documentation.
  • Ability to objectively observe and assess behaviors through a variety of methods.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with a variety of individuals, groups and organizations.
