Position Summary

Duties and Responsibilities

Programs

  • Supervise swimming lessons
  • Process and Track program registration
  • Ensure quality programs are delivered
  • Assist with instructor evaluations
  • Actively attends lesson sessions to supervise and answer participant questions through communicating with parents and guardians
  • Provide immediate instructor coverage, fillin as required
  • Manage administrative duties of swim lessons

Operations

  • Team Lead
  • Assist with maintaining staff records; update and maintain iWork
  • Assist with lifeguard evaluations
  • Mentor staff through the practice of emergency procedures consistently
  • Provide immediate lifeguard coverage, fillin as required
  • Enforce Employee and User Code of Conducts
  • Attend education and/or training sessions (inservices)

Safety Supervision

  • Maintain contact with public to be readily available to respond to questions or concerns, handle customer inquiries with tact and diplomacy and respect
  • Positive public image through work quality and interpersonal communication
  • Execute First Aid procedures as required
  • Take charge of emergency situations in absence of Aquatics Management and ensure event has detailed documentation

Skills

  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to enforce safety protocols with tact and consistency, familiarity with Canada Games Centre User Code of Conduct
  • Practical experience working in a noisy, pastfaced environment
  • Requires quick response skill with calm, controlled manner during first aid and interpersonal situations
  • Capable of using independent judgment while maintaining a professional demeanour under pressure
  • Leadership skills that instill confidence and trust in fellow employees and the public
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and exert physical effort
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills to communicate effectively with patrons and staff
  • Comfortable working with diverse groups through a variety of situations
  • Foster a relationship with the Summer Camp Supervisor

Qualifications

_ Mandatory __(to be maintained as a condition of employment)_

  • National Lifeguard (NL) (Pool option)
  • Intermediate Workplace First Aid (or SFA) with CPR-C
  • Automated External Defibrillator Administration (AED)
  • Airway Management or Oxygen Administration
  • SwimforLife Instructor (SFL), Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or YMCA Instructor
  • Team Lead
and/or APS experience/ Lesson Supervisor

  • Minimum 23 years experience as a Lifeguard and Instructor

_Desirable_

  • Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) (with Bronze Examiners)
  • Aquatic Supervisor Training

Other Requirements

  • Attendance at inservices is mandatory
  • Lifesaving/ Swim for Life Instructor Trainer is considered an asset
  • Lifesaving NLS Instructor and Examiner is considered an asset
  • 12 years' experience in a Supervisory role
  • Working environment includes physical, emotional, and mental demands on infrequent occasion
  • Safe lifting, carrying, and rescue techniques (use of a rescue aid in the water and coordination of rescue with a second rescuer, when possible, are required by the employer)
  • Safe use of all protective/barrier equipment is required by the employer
  • Able to deal with exposure to loud noises and ability to concentrate in a busy environment
  • Computer competencies (Word, Excel & Legend)

Work Schedule

  • This is a contract position beginning June 12th, 2023 and ending September 1st, 2023
hours per week and will fall within building hours. Schedule will vary based on facility need


Compensation

  • The compensation for this position is $16.00$18.00 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

  • Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks will be required as part of the hiring process
