The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) ensures there is an infection prevention and control program implemented in the care communities (LTC) that promotes the safety of residents and staff.


Responsibilities:


  • Ensures staff are following IPAC processes
  • Works with Public Health to manage outbreaks
  • Educates staff on all IPAC practices
  • Facilitates orientation for all new hires on IPAC processes
  • Ensures a screening program is in place for residents and staff
  • Completes reporting and evaluations of IPAC
  • Runs scheduled audits on hand hygiene, PPE, cleaning etc.
  • Organizes flu and immunization clinics
  • Works closely with the nursing team and the physicians on management of residents and staff pertaining to infection.

Qualifications

  • A Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse
  • University degree in related discipline (e.g. nursing, laboratory, epidemiology etc.)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in infection control is preferred
  • Previous experience in longterm care or health care sector
  • Infection Prevention & Control (aIPC) and/or Certification in Infection Control (CIC) an asset
  • Knowledge of the Long Term Care Act & Regulations is preferred
