Summary:


The
Indoor Live Goods Supervisor is responsible for supervising the indoor live goods department including both plants and staff through communication with management, staff, suppliers, and customers.
This individual's main goal is to increase productivity and efficiencies whereby improving sales and growth throughout the company, but the indoor live goods department in particular.

This area encompasses annuals, poinsettias, tropical plants, custom plantings, and potting requirements (pots, indoor soils, watering cans, etc.).


Job Duties:


  • Supervise back greenhouse, midgreenhouse, and tropical sections.
  • Organize and train staff in accordance with policies and procedures and assist staff in gaining knowledge of the department and related customer service skills.
  • On call to fill in for absent employees or days where shortstaffed (this may require working on scheduled days off or working longer shifts).
  • Create a weekly schedule for the indoor live goods department and submit it to the Store Manager a minimum of two weeks in advance, ensuring all shifts are fully covered.
  • Develop and administer the daily break/lunch schedule.
  • Schedule and conduct staff meetings as required (on a daily and weekly basis).
  • Order product for the department and ensure that the product reflects both the customers' and retail environments' need by keeping current with market trends.
  • Manage inventory so that sufficient product is available and limited product is discarded, ensuring all receiving paperwork is properly counted and submitted.
  • Review future sale items and ensure sufficient product is ordered.
  • Plan and implement displays for optimal retail sales.
  • Review which products are top sellers or are not selling and adjust inventory accordingly while ensuring that product in the greenhouse area meets the highest quality standard.
  • Maintain orderly displays and coordinate with other sales departments to cross merchandise to increase average basket value.
  • Provide daily duties for employees in the indoor live goods department.
  • Develop and conduct initial training sessions for new employees: this will include a basic overview of the policies and procedures for the area, a description of their role and ongoing support for the first few weeks.
  • Provide recommendations to Human Resources and/or the Store Manager for any additional training needs.
  • Presenting product knowledge and selling skills training program once a week during peak selling seasons
  • Ensure employees work in a safe manner as per the Health and Safety policy.
  • Provide employees with all necessary equipment to complete their job.
  • Conduct employee evaluations as required (Fulltime employees: at minimum one at 3 months, 6 months, and a year

For seasonal employees:
one at 3 weeks and at the end of the season).

  • Responsible for weekly sale item support (i.e., employee updates inventory, signage, pricing).
  • Record which products are written off and review the reason to limit recurrence.
  • Maintain a clean work and shopping environment.
  • Be cognizant of plant growing/watering conditions and inform the Head Grower of any deficiencies.
  • Ensure a positive teambased environment.
  • Assist Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in the hiring process and training of new employees.
  • Be a strong role model for your department area.
  • Responsible for tools, equipment, machines and materials (i.e. pump trucks, fork lifts, signage, displays, doors, etc.)
  • Provide upper management with a monthly (winter months), biweekly (spring/summer) report of any issues and/or concerns that need to be addressed.
  • Ensure that all activities are being conducted with customer service as the primary concern.
  • Remain informed of current product trends and recommend which trends to implement in your area: this includes new plants, new maintenance guides and any other design trends.
  • Conduct seminars to advise customers of product trends, maintenance and any other technique which may increase the sales in the retail environment.
  • Work with Landscapers to help build/organize their orders with retail merchandise or wholesale orders, and coordinate deliveries with Wholesale if required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Previous Supervisor experience preferred.
  • Greenhouse/Garden Centre experience preferred.
  • 35 years working in Retail experience.
  • Ability to mediate and resolve any employee and/or customer
