The Opportunity
Working with a team, the Active Living Leader develops and leads activities that promote an

active, healthy lifestyle among newcomers to Canada as well as connecting them with the

community at large around this topic.


Responsibilities

  • Program planning and delivering activities
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients to ensure activities are relevant to client interests and needs
  • Promoting the program and recruiting participants
  • Collaborating with Coordinator to share newcomer experiences related to active living; contribute our YMCA perspective and profile our work in this area
  • Remaining current on issues and information that could impact and benefit clients
  • Working with local groups, partners and schools to implement active living sessions
  • Establishing and maintaining connections with a variety of likeminded community based organizations and institutions
  • Referring to other active living services as needed and collaborating with other community agencies to ensure successful settlement and integration
  • Basic administration including but not limited to data entry

Qualifications & Skills

  • Recreation Therapy, Health Promotion or other equivalent experience is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of immigrant settlement and community development work
  • Experience working with newcomers
  • Experience and demonstrated initiative related to program planning and delivery (inperson and online)
  • Demonstrated networking, rapport building and communication skills to work positively with groups & individuals
  • Able to work collaboratively with individuals and teams in leading program
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines and tasks
  • Robust understanding and connection to a variety of active living organizations, community services and resources
  • Ability to demonstrate positive and effective interpersonal skills
  • High level of initiative is needed to work independently and respond to unanticipated items
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed
