Safety and Production Supervisor


The Safety and Production Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the safe, efficient, and effective operations of the malting and grain handling processes at the Thunder Bay plant.

This role reports to the Production Manager.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership to plant production, shipping, and grain handling operations in conjunction with other production staff.
  • Documents and addresses production nonconformances.
  • Assists and manage process improvement initiatives.
  • Supports manufacturing policies and operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, inventory, quality, etc. to achieve P & L targets.
  • Establish operational priorities and schedules for manufacturing products and grain handling processes in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate processing/shipping activities to meet customer requirements.
  • Resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Ensure adherence to best in class manufacturing practices and procedures.
  • Manage environmental and safety programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations best in class safety performance.
  • Ensures compliance with union contract(s). Manages union relationships and communication.
  • Responsible for payroll for direct reports.
  • Ensures that the plant meets all governmental and corporate EHS reporting requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to employees on health and safety issues
  • Assist in investigating incidents and making recommendations for corrective actions
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards and risks
  • Participate as a member of the Health and Safety Committee

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years' Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset
  • Brewing or agriculture education an asset.
  • Related grain, agriculture, malting, or brewing experience is considered an asset.
  • Selfmotivated with a high level of initiative.
  • Able to exercise discretion and preserve confidentiality with a strong set of ethical values.
  • Knowledge of Management Systems (ISO,GMP, HACCP, SHE, Microsoft Dynamics AX, Sharepoint) an asset.
  • Experienced working in a unionized workplace.
  • Knowledge of Safety in the work environment.
  • Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office Suite, Database software, Manufacturing software, Timekeeping software

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation and procedures
  • Related certifications such as National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation will be considered assets.

EDUCATION

  • College diploma in a related field preferable with agriculture, malting or brewing concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Travel on foot is required throughout the plant site. In operation buildings employees are required to access multiple levels using stairs, elevators and ladders. Work will be a combination of indoor and outdoor environment. Work must be performed in all weather conditions, dusty, wet and other conditions.
  • Working conditions in various areas of the plant may expose the worker to mild levels of sulphur dioxide, sodium hypochlorite, mild levels of H2S and dust. Personal protective equipment must be worn during such exposures to mitigate these risks.
  • We are a 24/7 operation, relying on the railway to bring in raw grain and to ship out our product

Salary:
$66,600.00-$83,200.00 per year
