The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4,000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35,000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington, and the City of Guelph.

The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Six Nations of the Grand River, and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Location:
Unassigned; including but not limited to: Orangeville, Shelburne, North Wellington, Erin


Hourly Rate:
$22.31 per hour (probationary rate); $23.73 per hour (permanent rate after a successful probationary period)


Hours:40 hours per week (8 hours/day); Monday through Friday; Hours of shifts will vary


Board Information:1.0 FTE;
permanent, full-time; Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)


Responsibilities:

The Caretaker - Unassigned support role duties include but are not limited to:

  • Opening and closing of sites
  • Snow removal salting and sanding
  • Water flushing
  • Cleaning of classrooms, offices, cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, washrooms, and all related areas as directed by the Head Caretaker, Shift Supervisor or designate
  • Daily check logs
  • Operating the Clorox 360 Machine if required
  • Head Caretaker duties
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Able to be successfully fit tested for an N95 respirator and maintain proper fit
  • An understanding of health and safety regulations as well as the WHMIS program
  • Independent, selfmotivated and detail oriented


This position requires a person who is thoroughly familiar with all standard caretaking methods and who has a desire to upgrade to new methods for improvement as they develop.

It is expected that the incumbent will be one who strives for excellence both in their own work and in the work of their staff.
