JOB SUMMARY


The Research Technician will demonstrate an ability to participate in study procedures that involve keen attention to detail, as well as higher technical skills.

The Research Technician will demonstrate a clear understanding of the objectives of the study, and will understand the study ramifications of variations to the study plan design.

This position will demonstrate a higher level of understanding of animal health, specifically rodents.


The incumbent will be conducting various types of rodent studies ranging from standard in-vivo PK studies to efficacy-based studies in rodent models of human dysfunction for evaluating novel compounds as part of a drug discovery service for TPC clients.

This involves proficiency in handling rodents, surgical manipulations, behavioural observation, dosing and sample (blood/organ) collection.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate, assist and perform assigned invivo studies including invivo pharmacokinetics, invivo pharmacodynamics, brain penetration studies and other invivo rodent models
  • Perform aseptic rodent surgeries, including but not limited to: vascular cannulation, stereotaxic surgeries and gastrointestinal catheterization in rodent models
  • Record and document experimental details with a high level of integrity, ethics and accuracy
  • Assist in the preparation of data summary reports, study related data entry, Quality Control
  • Prepare and export sponsor sample shipments in appropriate conditions with required crossborder documentation
  • Perform studyrelated husbandry duties to ensure proper animal care practices are adhered to and are according to CCAC guidelines and facility SOPs
  • Work within a team to ensure that projects are successfully conducted and completed to a high level of quality and scientific competence
  • Participate in the maintenance of an adequate inventory of supplies
  • Participate in internal working groups (eg. animal care committee, health and safety, etc)
  • May be required to manage and supervise staff if required
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Veterinary diploma or B.Sc. degree in a relevant field (e.g. Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, Veterinary Sciences, Biochemistry)
  • With at least 2 years of direct animal experience
  • 12 Years experience in handling rodents, drug administration and blood sampling in rodents
  • 12 Years experience in survival surgical techniques in rodents (e.g. catheterization)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to meet timelines
  • Ability to work in a safe environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary:
$65,000.00 per year

  • French not required

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Fergus, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
