Aquatics Leadership Program - Part 2 consists of the following courses:

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification

Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor


The Aquatic Leadership Program is a joint venture between the York Region District School Board, Continuing Education Services and the City of Vaughan.

The qualified teacher will deliver the Grade 12 Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership (PLF4M) course, while preparing students to acquire their Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor and Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard certifications.

The aquatic skills for lifeguarding, swim and instructor must be evaluated by an examiner from the Lifesaving Society.


The course will use a blended learning format consisting of pool instruction, face-to-face instruction in class and remote virtual learning.

The class is effective from September 19, 2023 to January 23, 2024. Pool instruction and face-to-face instruction will occur on specifically scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be two online Saturday classes from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on November 4 and December 2, 2023. The remaining curriculum expectations will be delivered through online instruction when face-to-face instruction is not required.


Major Responsibilities:

Designing, planning, implementing, and evaluation of curriculum/program.


Teaching Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership (PLF4M), Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification and the Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor courses.

Developing and maintaining an equitable and inclusive learning environment.


Utilizing e-learning tools e

g:

BrightSpace by D2L, Google Classroom, Turnitin, etc. to deliver online curriculum

Collecting and reporting of student achievement data.

Maintaining a safe school/class (face-to-face, pool and online) environment.

Ongoing communication with staff and parents/guardians.

Reporting to e-Learning Principal.

Supervision of students as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.


Education, Experience and Qualifications:

Ontario Certified Teacher preferably with Intermediate/Senior Health and Physical Education Qualifications

Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Trainer

National Lifeguard Certification

National Lifeguard Instructor and Examiner

A Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Standard First Aid, CPR-C
