Summary
The Material Handler will be responsible for material offloading from supplier trucks, providing production with raw materials, moving finished goods to shipping area, and removing scrap from production areas.
The incumbent will be required to follow all Health and Safety policies and procedures and all internal policies and procedures.
Reporting Structure
Reports to the Production Manager.
Duties Include
-
Drive a counter balance, propane forklift with precision and confidence:
- Ensure raw material supply is maintained at the production lines
- Assist with the offload of incoming raw materials
- Provide production with raw materials and move finished goods to transportation truck
- Removal of scrap material from production areas
- Load scrap into the baler unit
- Advise the shipper / receiver of any raw material or packaging shortages
- Perform required equipment inspections on forklift, truck, and other industrial equipment being utilized.
- Participate in clean up and maintenance
- Work closely with internal departments to ensure open and timely communication
- Safely operate the lift truck to fulfill duties ensuring lift truck is in good condition daily safety inspection required
- Handles stock in a careful and safe manner, conscious of quality and preventing damage.
- Practices and adheres to established safety rules and policies as well as established housekeeping standards.
- Participate in annual physical inventory counts.
- Interact with coworkers, management, customers, and drivers.
- Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Education, Skills and Experience
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- Forklift certification required 3 years preferred in a manufacturing environment
- Class G2/G drivers license
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize work under pressure
- Comfortable working individually and as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills needed
Physical / Environmental Demands
- Non air conditioned manufacturing environment where exposure to seasonal heat and humidity is present
- Exposure to noise and moving machinery
- PPE is required
- Ability to manually lift up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques
