Your role:


CBC Manitoba is looking for a reporter who is connected to Manitoba's communities, who knows how to find original stories and who has a passion for storytelling.

You are a creative, strong critical thinker who can tell compelling stories on multiple platforms:
digital, radio and television. You will be expected to report breaking news, produce original journalism and write stories for online platforms. You must demonstrate and maintain exceptional skills in writing about Manitoba issues in a clear and concise manner.


In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.


Key tasks:

  • Pitch, research, write and produce original story ideas for digital, radio and TV programming that will engage and inform the audience, deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.
  • Regularly present stories onair, providing context to enhance the audience's understanding of issues.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.
  • Deliver exclusive and enterprise material on a regular basis.
  • Distil large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.
  • Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas.
  • Storyteller with a strong demonstrated connection to the diversity of Winnipeg and Manitoba including deep knowledge of Indigenous communities.
  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Working knowledge of digital news including social media.
  • Flexibility with hours of work and willingness to learn and take on new tasks across all CBC platforms.
  • Sound news judgement and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.
  • Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.
  • High energy and enthusiasm for journalism.
  • University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
