Field Coordinator for the Wetland, Aquatic, Vegetation and Soils (WAVES) team in its Calgary, AB office.

Primary field duties may include:


  • Complete and direct various tasks related to wetland and watercourse desktop and field delineations, classifications, impact assessment, mitigation plan development, permitting, and restoration monitoring.
  • Complete and direct various tasks related to soils desktop and field delineations, classifications for ecotypes, mitigation plan development, permitting, and restoration monitoring.
  • Ensure that all assessments are conducted in accordance with defined protocols and the work progresses in a timely manner; including Ground Disturbance protocols.
  • Assist with developing and conducting Pre-Disturbance Site Assessments (PDSAs) prior to construction and Interim Monitoring Site Assessments (IMSAs) after construction of renewable facilities.
  • Assisting with reporting on multidisciplinary surveys (watercourse, wetlands, soils, wildlife, etc.).
  • Assisting on other surveys and field work (e.g. wildlife, watercourse, water quality monitoring), as needed.
  • Work individually, and with a team of natural resource specialists, scientists, and biometricians.

Job Requirements


Primary office and supervisory duties may include:

  • Supervising a team of Field Biologists and Technicians,
  • Signing timesheets and approving expense reports for field staff,
  • Tracking and ensuring compliance of field staff in health and safety requirements,
  • Screening, interviewing, hiring, and managing field staff,
  • Management of field and office equipment,
  • Overseeing and coordinating data entry and management processes for all projects,
  • Prepare proposals, reports, and/or plans,
  • Provide quality assurance of data,
  • Ensure work is performed safely and complete Safe Work Procedures as well as Standard Operating Procedures,
  • Direct environmental technical aspects of multiple small to largescale planning projects and teams, with emphasis on renewable development,
  • Coordinate with local/provincial/federal agencies, First Nations, and the public in support of clientdirected project work,
  • Foster current business relationships and actively promote new business development efforts,
  • Capitalize on existing client relationships to expand WEST's profile and market share,
  • Promote WEST's core values of quality client service and a collaborative team approach while maintaining a positive and respectful work atmosphere,
  • Providing reporting support as needed: compiling tables and figures, report writing,
  • Analyze potential project impacts and prepare environmental evaluations and assessments to avoid, minimize, or mitigate those impacts,
  • Complete and direct various project management and support tasks related to regulatory and permitting requirements,
  • Setup, supervise, direct, and coordinate field studies,
  • Conduct daytoday administration and management of projects,
  • Summarizing and entering data,
  • Prepare and assist in reports (including, but not limited to: Wetland Assessment and Impact Forms and Reports, Codes of Practice, Conservation & Reclamation Plans (C&Rs), Mitigation Plans, Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs), PDSAs and Site Restoration, and Soil Management Plans.

Requirements:


  • Legally allowed to work in Canada (i.e., Canadian citizen, Canadian permanent resident, or have an existing VISA with no work restrictions)

Please note:
US citizens require a Canadian work visa to work in Canada.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science/planning, natural resource science, ecology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of applicable experience, in environmental consulting, in various sectors.
  • Have of have the ability to obtain a professional design
