Position Summary


Reporting to the Senior Director of Business Development, the Research Coordinator co-ordinates and operationalizes the activities of the Applied Research and Innovation Office (ARIO).

These activities include overseeing the functions of ARIO, the Research Centres at the College and the operations of the Research Ethics Board to ensure efficient and effective completion of multiple research projects and initiatives.

The Research Coordinator assists in planning of research priorities and recommends practices to support a research culture across the College.

The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department including evaluating research projects and maintaining accountability for compliance with external funding sources/internal audit requirements.

The incumbent acts as the liaison between the College, internal and external stakeholders, and industry or community research partners, as well as acts as the primary support for Research Ethics Board.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and execution of the College's strategic plan for Applied Research and Innovation.
  • Creates, inputs and maintains a data base/analysis model to assess program and service profile and "health" and comparison to benchmarks in support of College decision making.
  • Responsible for compliance management activities, including establishing related policies and practices, ensuring compliance with practices related to ethical research.
  • Conducts and analyzes research to explore new program and service proposals and program renewal/revisioning.
  • Assists in planning, setting of priorities for applied research and submission of proposals to appropriate funding sources for membership, certification and project funding to appropriate research, development, commercialization, and innovation entities.
  • Advises and assists faculty in planning and tracking project activities and acts as a liaison with principal investigators, faculty and staff regarding potential research opportunities.
  • Acts as a liaison with private sector partners to identify industry research needs, respond to inquiries and identify manners to support research projects through funding or contract sources.
  • Serves as a resource to the College community regarding research integrity and ethical compliance and provides educational, administrative, and monitoring support for the Research Ethics Board.
  • Serves as a resource to the College community regarding applied research and ethical issues.
  • Represents ARIO at internal and external events and with industry stakeholders to demonstrate and promote the research capability at the College.
  • Monitors budgets for research projects, identifying revenue, reconciling financial records, recommending purchases based on eligible funding criteria and assisting with resolving discrepancies with internal College stakeholders.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for individual research projects for provincial and federal compliance.
  • Prepares reports at the completion of a research project to ensure internal and external compliance with funding sources.
  • Tracks and prepares reports on research projects and ARIO activities indicating metrics for senior executives and external associations.
  • Reports monthly, quarterly and annually to provincial and federal funding agencies to ensure compliance including financial and metrics.
  • Develops and submits research grant proposals, assists in negotiating specifics of grants and reports to supervisor, funders and external partners.

Qualifications

  • A four (4) year degree in a related field: a focus on applied research processes considered an asset.
  • Minimum five (5) years recent industry experience in applied research processes including project design, funding and project management including best practices in research ethics: demonstrated research ethics training considered an asset.
