JOB PURPOSE


Provides leadership and strategic direction in the acquisition, stewardship and annual giving growth of United Way's relationships with individual donors.

Working closely with the Fundraising, Marketing, and Community Investment teams, the Direct Donor Strategist will lead the planning, coordinating and execution of direct donor strategies, annual giving, and activities to support fundraising across the organization.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising - Direct to Donor Relationship Management


  • Responsible for donor profiling of current and lapsed donors in the Direct Mail portfolio and develop and implement strategies for revenue growth
  • Develop and implement acquisition strategies to attract new donors
  • Develop and implement direct to donor stewardship strategies to increase revenues and strengthen customer (donor) loyalty using a variety of communication strategies
  • Conduct a cost/benefit analysis for each campaign, as well as regular assessment of the program to maximize return on investment
  • Identify Planned Giving prospects and work collaboratively with the Philanthropy Department to nurture future gifts
  • Work closely with the Donor Relations and Stewardship Specialist and Marketing Department to maximize the use and delivery of existing stewardship materials
  • Manage the fundraising aspect of the Customer Relationship program including personal onetoone communication with individual donors, and telemarketing followup
  • Track and manage donor databases including changes, donor preferences, etc.
  • Develop and maintain response and profit/loss reports
  • Identify business opportunities and monitor competitor performance
  • Comply with all departmental budgeting processes
  • Monitor and evaluate the strategies implemented to ensure objectives are met

Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising - Leadership Donors in the Workplace


  • Develops stewardship strategy for donors giving at various levels
  • Develops strategy for workplace campaigns implementing leadership strategies, to drive donations at this level
  • Recruit and lead a team of leadership speakers and provide training for the Speaker's Bureau

Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising - Workplace


  • Assist in developing and implementing the overall campaign plan
  • Prepare analyses on assigned division(s) and prepare and implement plans for cultivation and solicitation
  • Accountable for assigned division(s) revenue goals
  • Track and monitor the activities and results of assigned division(s)
  • Regularly update account information and prepare ongoing evaluations

Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising - Campaign Associates


  • May supervise Campaign Associates on a daytoday bases
  • Assist in the training and orientation of the Campaign Associate Team
  • Provide leadership and fundraising guidance, assist in problem identification and resolution, and monitor results account by account
  • Mentor, guide and coach Campaign Associates during their term with United Way

General

  • Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education:


  • Two (2) year diploma from a recognized Marketing program or program specializing in Direct Marketing

Experience:


  • Five years recent experience in a direct marketing/fundraising, experience in direct mail and emarketing as well as experience in business case development and cost/benefit analysis
  • Budget management and project management skills are essential for this position
  • Experience developing and tracking cross channel communication plans
  • Sales experience and experience as a United Way Campaign Associate are assets
  • Supervisory experience and experience working with volunteers at various levels throughout the community are preferred
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered

  • Ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team and work as a team member
  • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Additional languages are an asset
  • Must be a proficient marketer, able to demonstrate marketing communications experience
  • Must be completely conversant in business case development and cost/benefit analysis and be able to present results from a financial, marketing and technical perspective
  • Able to effectively communicate with suppliers on behalf of United Way Lower Mainland and to negotiate costs for services
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office programs

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Require a drivers license and access to a vehicle
