This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community-based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.


NSH, along with the partner institutions of the Atlantic Clinical Trials Network (ACTN) is a member and founder of the CANadian Consortium of Clinical Trial TRAINing (CANTRAIN).

CANTRAIN is a national clinical trial training program is being implemented.

Its vision is to offer the best, certified, and standardized clinical trials' training and mentoring program across Canada accompanied by Studentships, Fellowships, Internships for postgraduate Trainees and Highly Qualified Personnel, in a real-world setting.


Position Summary:


Co-develops and delivers CANTRAIN education, experiential and mentorship programs and conducts capacity building activities for the CANTRAIN platform at participating sites across the province/region.

The role includes partnership development and maintenance of clinical trials' training and mentoring of clinical trials specialists and students.

This position works in collaboration to develop and execute creative strategies for virtual and occasional in-person education delivery.

The position also will work to develop and leverage opportunities for virtual and in-person capacity building in partnership with local, provincial, and national service providers, and maintain and implement CANTRAIN's Knowledge Management Strategy.


Specific Accountabilities:


1. Planning and delivery of CANTRAIN clinical trial training programs/streams and capacity building initiatives to frontline learners and practitioners (50%).

  • Identifies new opportunities for the CANTRAIN Clinical Trial Training Platform; engages in capacity building and curates sessions for regional, provincial, and national audiences.
  • Collects appropriate evaluation data on CANTRAIN educational programs in a confidential manner to provide timely and accurate entries into CANTRAIN's key performance indicator database.
  • Provides support to other CANTRAIN Health Educators in the delivery of programs.

2. Development of organizational partnerships (25%).

  • Supports the development of national, provincial and topicbased partnerships; leads the rollout of new initiatives across the province/region.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of the CANTRAIN Clinical Trial Training Platform, actively shares information internally, and acts as a resource for the regions/sectors for CANTRAIN staff on key organizations, programs, activities and contacts.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships between CANTRAIN and provincial organizations working in the conduct of clinical trials.
  • Leads provincial and topicspecific outreach activities to increase awareness of CANTRAIN's services (e.g., digital and print publications).
  • Maintains provincial profiles for assigned region(s).

3. Development of content for education and capacity building programs to integrate CANTRAIN educational, experiential and mentorship activities (20%).

  • Updates and revises content annually or when new information warrants in assigned area.
  • Collaborates with CANTRAIN Clinical Research Educators to develop integrated program offerings (training + experiential + mentoring) that are complementary.
  • Develops content for online and in person workshops/sessions regarding the CANTRAIN platform as well as various topics related to clinical trials.
  • Supports CANTRAIN Health Educators in content development.
