Position Overview

Working Conditions:

DAY Shift: Monday to Thursday, 06:00 16:30 10hour days at the shop location
Must be flexible with work schedule to accommodate business needs
Majority of time to be spent on the shop floor, yard and field ensuring compliance to Alstar's Safety Management System
This role will have oncall expectations during the weekdays and weekends; it is considered a safetysensitive position

Position Specific Accountabilities:

Provide safety support throughout the company
Work with the safety team to deliver a consistent approach to safety and its processes companywide
Implement and monitor corporate safety policies and procedures
Conduct monthly safety meetings
Present orientations and training internal staff and contractors as required
Conduct shop and yard inspections
Assist in safety program development and continual improvement
Conduct and assist with audits (internal, supervisor).
Incident investigations and WCB case management
Prepare and maintain HSE reports and recommend appropriate actions
Other duties assigned by the Safety Operations Coordinator

Requirements:

years of safety advisor experience in the oil & gas, mechanical construction/fabrication or manufacturing industry

Experienced First Aider
NCSO designation or higher would be an asset but not required
CSTS 09/2020 or Energy Safety Canada Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
Valid Standard First Aid w/CPR (level A or C, 2day course)
Valid H2S Alive
Valid Ground Disturbance level
Valid Confined Space Entry, Monitor & Rescue is preferred
Have a valid driver's license (min. class 5)
Being able to provide a 3year driver's abstract (less than 1 month old. No more than 2 minor convictions within the last three years. No major convictions (ie. impaired driving, dangerous driving causing death/bodily harm).
Be handson and proactive in dealing with safety related issues. Boots on the ground required
Majority of the time must be spent on the shop floor and yard ensuring compliance to Alstar Safety Management System

Skills:

Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Create an environment that fosters respect
Bring a collaborative approach to decisionmaking
Strong computer skills (Google suite experience is an asset)
