The Ministry of Attorney General works in partnership with the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General to advance a shared vision of a safe, secure, just, and resilient British Columbia.
The ministry works to keep communities safe and provide certainty, proportionality and, above all, fairness when dealing with criminal, civil and family law matters and to protect people, especially those who are most vulnerable.
The ministry's Legal Services Branch (LSB) serves as the government's provider of legal and legislative services.LSB provides advice in many areas, including constitutional and administrative law; Crown-Indigenous relations, resource, environment and land law; revenue and taxation law; health and social services law; finance, commercial and transportation law; and justice, employment and education law.
In addition to legal advice, some practice groups within the branch provide litigation support. LSB is a leader in developing innovative ways to use technology and dispute resolution alternatives.
Solicitors within LSB advise the Minister of Attorney General, Cabinet, ministries, and certain public agencies on legal matters to ensure that all areas of the Provincial government act in accordance with the law and minimize any legal risks associated with government operations.
