ROLE DESCRIPTION:


The Security Officer plays an integral role in supporting the successful delivery of events at both the Halifax Convention Centre and the Scotiabank Centre.

This role ensures a safe and secure environment at both properties while also delivering a memorable guest experience.


The Event Security team helps to ensure a balance between providing event accessibility while also ensuring the safety of all clients and staff.

To that end, the Security Officer administers the security access control platform (Kantech), taking direct responsibility for on-site camera monitoring and event-related requirements (facility door access control, pass card management, elevator pre-programming, in-the-moment requests, and more).

Security Officer's also perform regular facility rounds, respond to calls for deployment, and support medical and emergency procedures.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Achieve and maintain first aid certification at SFA CPR C level.
Directly administer and manage security access control platform (Kantech):
Monitor cameras for event and facility concerns, threats, or other situations.

Control red/green/grey access to facility meeting room doors as well as service corridors and stairwells, including pre-programming based on Ungerboeck data entry.

Pre-program passenger elevator requirements on a case-by-case basis; manage on-site changes/requests.

Perform regular facility rounds including front of house spaces, back of house spaces, emergency exit routes, and limited exterior areas.

Respond to calls for deployment; respond to support calls from front of house staff.
Support Incident responsiveness in accordance with Events East policies, procedures, and Service Delivery Standards.

Take a lead role in facility response to fire alarms and medical emergencies during non-critical times, including manually activating the system as required.

Actively monitor the Active Threat System and be responsible for the activation of the Active Threat System.
Answer incoming calls to the Security Operations Centre, including facility emergency phones.
Investigate alarm triggers.
Support facility policies and procedures during move-in/out's (e

g:
enforcement of non-use of passenger elevators, escalators, or Argyle Entrance).
Review Ungerboeck programming regularly for changes; manage work orders including updating actuals and closing orders.
Identify and mitigate any event-related health and safety concerns, both property-related and security-related.
Treat security matters in a responsible and confidential manner.
Other duties, as required and directed.


PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

Minimum 1 year of experience in a security (or related) role.
Completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent.


Additional Requirements:

Exceptional customer service skills and a collaborative mindset.
Proven ability to act decisively in challenging or stressful situations and to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.
Strong communication skills (oral, written, telephone) and ability read and write fluently in English.
Must be able to work flexible hours supporting events including evenings and overnights as well as weekends and holidays.
May be required to work long shifts hours) with extended periods of standing/walking.
Minimum 19 years of age.
