The Institute's primary functions are to promote research, to facilitate the training of highly qualified personnel, and to foster national and international collaborations in cognitive neuroscience.


Responsibilities:


The Research Technician will perform and record the results of research exploring spatial hearing and multisensory spatial perception, under the direction of a Principal Investigator, with limited supervision, related to functional neuroimaging (fMRI) in people with epilepsy, and exploring aspects of speech listening behaviour in both normally hearing individuals and those with hearing loss, using behavioural and electrophysiological (EEG, MEG) and other imaging (fNIRS) methods.

The role will make recommendations for, and assist with determining, the optimal protocols and techniques for use in the conduct of research, and will assist the PI in developing methods for neuroimaging analysis.

The Research Technician will process and analyze data using a broad range of techniques, including machine learning, participate in knowledge translation and dissemination of research results, and support the development and implementation of future research projects.

The role will also assist researchers, staff, students and other members of the research team with analyzing neuroimaging data and will assist the PI in developing computational models of behavioural, neural and neuroimaging data to facilitate the achievement of innovative research results.


Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • 4 year University Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience conducting research projects involving neuroimaging methods, processing and analysis of human neuroimaging data (e.g. EEG, MEG, fMRI) in an academic research environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of machine learning methods
  • Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research ethics in an academic environment
  • Knowledge of computational models of behavioural, neural, and neuroimaging data
  • Demonstrated ability to develop computational models of behavioural, neural, and neuroimaging data, higher order ambisonics and virtual acoustic environments
  • Familiarity with techniques involving functional neuroimaging (fMRI)
  • Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
  • Ability to collaborate and develop credible relationships with a wide variety of individuals
  • Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
  • Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation, research reports, and presentations
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
  • Detailoriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and PeopleSoft Financials
  • Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
  • Ability to investigate complex issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
  • Ability to interpret and identify key results from research and to succinctly summarize research findings
