Work Schedule: 5 on and 2 off / Monday to Thursday 10 hours per day and Friday 8 hours per day

Job Purpose


The Construction HSE Advisor is responsible for ensuring that all site leadership and workers are aware of their responsibilities and obligations under the OH&S Act and regulations.

Construction HSE Advisors shall also be the competency champions for the company ensuring that all site leadership is performing their role when it comes to the competency program.


Responsibilities:


  • Displays a commitment to Waiward's incidentfree vision, values, and culture.
  • Knows, understands, communicates and ensures compliance with safety regulations (Occupational Health and Safety Act) and safety policies and procedures of both company and client.
  • Facilitates a safe work culture and work with supervision to ensure the team is working to current safety policies and regulations.
  • Identifies needs and provides/facilitates or arranges for crew safety training.
  • Participates / coaches leaders in daily "tool box" talks and weekly safety meetings.
  • Leads safety/incident investigations and reviews.
  • Documents all incidents and other required safety reports.
  • Participates in and leads documented site general planned inspections.
  • Encourages and participates in "Near Miss Reporting".
  • Works with supervision on assessing competency and capability of tradespersons.
  • Coaches leadership to ensure that workers have required certifications and training to meet our company, the client, and OH&S policies and standards.
  • Conducts site safety orientation for new hires on all projects and submit necessary documentation internally.
  • Assists supervisors in completing safe work plans, hazardous work permits, and other permits as described in the procedural letters.
  • Demonstrates and coaches leadership on inclusive culture to ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Coaches leadership on modified/restricted duties for employees.
  • Conducts site assessments with Site Supervision to determine hazards and assists in selection and implementation of appropriate controls.
  • Establishes inspection schedules and participates and or leads all job site inspections, assigning corrective action and reporting back to workers on inspection findings.
  • Leads all investigations and recommends to leadership what corrective actions may be taken, once leadership decides on the corrective actions to be taken records them in the investigation report.

Qualifications:

  • OH&S diploma or equivalent, CRSP would be considered an asset with at least three (3) years construction experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years as NCSO with relevant construction experience.
  • CSTS09/CSTS 2020 & OSSA Regional/BSO/CSO
  • Certifications required for the work being performed (Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry & Monitor, EWP, etc.)
  • Current Class 5 Driver's Licence and a current Driver's Abstract is required
  • Preaccess Alcohol & Drug Testing is mandatory
  • Solid knowledge of investigation techniques (i.e. TapRoot)
  • Basic auditing techniques (i.e. Core / ISO)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and good comprehension.
