Regular Full Time

The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department requires a regular full-time Labourer 3 in the Parks Section.

In this position, you will assist a Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor in carrying our turf, litter, trails, encampment clean ups, cemetery maintenance and general park construction and maintenance tasks.

You will perform skilled and semi-skilled turfgrass maintenance which could include maintenance of all sport field types and passive urban park turfgrass areas, cemetery interments, trail work and heavy labouring.

In addition, you will operate power tools, larger ride-on lawn maintenance equipment and hand tools.

At times you will be required to act as Lead Hand in assigning and supervising the work of a small group of subordinates engaged in parks maintenance and construction, watering, litter and encampment waste collection and repairing vandalism.

Performs related duties as required.

You will have considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, procedures, tools and equipment used in sport field and turfgrass maintenance and general park maintenance and construction; considerable skill in the operation of park maintenance equipment and hand tools; considerable experience in general parks maintenance work (preferably on a turf, trails, cemetery maintenance and construction crew); and the physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy manual work outdoors in all types of weather.

You will have strong public relations skills with the ability to effectively interact with the public, as well as, demonstrated leadership skills.

A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is also required.

Completion of, or progress towards a Turfgass Management Certificate or Diploma, Landscape Horticulturist Red Seal Trade Certification, ISA certification or a Natural Land Management certification, or equivalent years of experience in those fields, would be an asset.

Salary:

$30.21 per hour
(January 2021 rates)

Hours of Work:

8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
