Brief Overview

  • Under the direction of the Director
  • Storytelling and Content Services, the Events and Experiences Manager assists in the development and implementation of planning, coordinating, and executing a wide range of events and activities that align with the goals and values of our Métis Nation-Saskatchewan Government.


This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding and respect for Métis culture and traditions.

As the Government expands, the Events and Experiences Manager will interact with the public, and establish productive relationships with key rightsholders, stakeholders, vendors, MN-S internal departments, MN-S elected, executives, and Elders.

Supported by and in coordination with SCS, the Events and Experiences Manager will help promote strategic communications including clear and on-going communication and engagement with MN-S citizens and encourage participation in the MN-S government.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and execute various events and activities, including community gatherings, cultural celebrations, workshops, conferences, and ceremonies.
  • Coordinate all aspects of event logistics, including venue selection, vendor management, budgeting, scheduling, and onsite coordination.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, community leaders, and external partners to ensure events meet objectives and align with cultural protocols.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, sponsors, and other stakeholders to secure resources and support for events.
  • Create and manage event budgets, track expenses, and ensure costeffective solutions without compromising quality.
  • Oversee promotional efforts for events, including marketing, advertising, and social media campaigns to maximize attendance and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, regulations, and protocols, including health and safety guidelines and Indigenous cultural protocols.
  • Evaluate the success of events through postevent analysis and feedback gathering and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • To fulfil these roles and activities, it will also be necessary for the Events and Experiences Manager to travel throughout the province.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Management Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor Events staff, providing guidance, support, and training as needed to ensure the successful execution of events.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to staff members, delegating work effectively to optimize team performance.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to recruit, hire, and onboard summer interns, providing them with meaningful learning experiences and opportunities for skill development.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and performance evaluations to staff and interns, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting open communication, teamwork, and mutual respect among team members.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and dedication to upholding the values and mission of Métis Nation-Saskatchewan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, Indigenous Studies, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience (5 years) in event planning and management, preferably in a community or government setting.
  • Deep understanding and appreciation of Métis culture, traditions, and protocols.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in budget management, negotiation, and vendor relations.
  • Knowledge of relevant software and tools, such as event management software, Microsoft Office Suite, Eventbrite, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
  • Commitment to upholding the values and mission of Métis Nation-Saskatchewan.
  • Demonstrated timemanagement skills; flexibility with changing, multiple priorities and the ability to remain focused to meet targeted timelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • The ability to navigate an evolving, changing work environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Saskatchewan driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
