Working hours: 8am to 4pm

FULL TIME TEMPORARY CONTRACT

Approximate Contract Date:
Mid-June to End of August (10 weeks)


The Organization


Since 1981, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto has served as a place to call home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment.

RMHC Toronto encompasses a House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury.

The families we serve come from throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world.


The Role


Reporting to the Manager, Family Services, the RMHC Toronto Camp Counsellor is responsible for planning and implementing RMHC Toronto Camp in accordance with its guiding principle, policies, and procedures.


Key Responsibilities Include

  • Register campers for RMHC Toronto Camp.
  • Assume responsibility of the safety of campers.
  • Plan and implement inclusive programming in line with organization's policies, procedures, and guiding principles.
  • Organize and arrange weekly camp inHouse special events (e.g. drama workshop, virtual field trip).
  • Plan and implement monthly donor engagement events in collaboration with the Programs and Development teams.
  • Facilitate activities with a sensitivity to campers' developmental, social, and emotional needs.
  • Respond to interdepartmental requests, providing camp information when necessary, assisting in the stewardship of donor requests and sharing appropriate social media stories.
  • Maintain accurate records of camp administrative documents including activity plans, camper registrations forms.
  • Maintain and compile statistical information (e.g. attendance records, satisfaction survey data) to support with Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting.
  • Performs other duties, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important to bring to the position and/or develop while in the role.


Education & Experience

  • Postsecondary education (or in the process of completion) in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with children of varying ages in educational settings (e.g. school, childcare center, camp).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience in program planning and implementation for children aged 412 years of age.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present and clarify concerns and concepts to various audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to comfortably interact with children, parents/caregivers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables in a timesensitive environment and adapt to frequently changing priorities.
  • Proven creativity to facilitate engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for children of varying ages.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, as well as independently.
  • Working knowledge in technology including Microsoft Office.
  • Proven success working with students with medical or mental health needs is an asset.
