The Opportunity:


The Program Coordinator element of the position involves ensuring meaningful educational delivery by all Instructors teaching the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) program, through training and support.

They are also responsible for ensuring that curriculum and course materials are operational and current for the evolving requirements of ECE professionals and meet the directives of the both the Ontario and Nova Scotia Colleges of Early Childhood Educators, and the equivalent in New Brunswick.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that program accreditation is maintained between assessments.


In this role, approximately 50% of the time will be spent teaching, and 50% of the time will be spent on program coordination and curriculum development.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Create, update, and maintain Instructor guides and report on the adequacy and appropriateness of instructional materials (course guides, resources, datasets, software, testing information).
  • Train and support new ECE Instructors.
  • Ensure faculty have the ongoing training, education, support, and supplies needed to instruct students effectively.
  • Take a lead role, while partnering with Academic Services, in curriculum development for ECE courses, while maintaining quality assurance standards, and effectively communicate and review with program faculty.
  • Manage the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process for exemptions.
  • Deliver student information sessions to prospective students.
  • Nurture a collaborative and engaging environment among faculty.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ECE faculty.
  • Monitor student success within the program, and at practicum.
  • Prepare the agenda for and lead faculty calls.
  • Adhere to the policies set forth by the regulatory bodies of Ontario, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
  • Participate in provincial and national initiatives related to ECE programs, learning outcomes, or careers.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships in the community to support student's practical learning experiences.
  • Work with Career Services employees to support student internship placements and student job searches.
  • Address student complaints and issues as they arise and in consultation with the appropriate Instructor.
  • Support all social media related activities (e.g. Internal communications, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

Instructor Responsibilities:


  • Prepare daily lesson plans, including lecture/lab and class materials, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, techniques and delivery methods designed to meet the individual learning styles of students.
  • Instruct assigned courses in accordance with course competencies.
  • Respond to student questions about the LMS platform and escalate any questions to the LMS Administrator.
  • Moderate and submit student grades and administer assessments using the LMS platform.
  • Prepare and grade tests, assignments, and examinations.
  • Monitor and enter student attendance.
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance policies, and provide students with the course outline to review.
  • Advise students regarding their academic needs and refer them for additional assistance as needed, and as available.
  • Monitor student progress against academic guidelines and communicate progress to the Campus Director.
  • Identify students who are struggling, absent, or have issues impacting their successful progress and escalate on a proactive basis to the Campus Director.
  • Discuss options for student success with the Campus Director if the student is not completing modules within the timeframe.
  • Assist with arrangements for outside practical assignments.
  • Participate in any planned field trips, new student orientation, student events and graduation ceremonies.
Other duties as assigned, and which are in the best interests of the College.


Experience:
