Job Number:49096**The City of Edmonton is currently recruiting energetic and charismatic individuals who value strong customer service in the Civic Centre, engaging and interacting with citizens of all walks of life. Reporting to the Facility and Program Coordinator, the Civic Centre Fountain and Event Host educates the public on the history, proper use, and navigation of the Civic Centre.


The Civic Centre includes but is not limited to; City Hall, City Hall Plaza, and Sir Winston Churchill Square, however staff may be required to work at other civic events and locations across the city.

Staff monitor Civic Centre amenities for safety of all patrons and ensure facility and amenity guidelines are adhered to. Staff may also be required to support Civic events throughout the downtown and river valley parks. Events may include parades, runs/walks, concerts, and from large events to small gatherings.

The staff's ability to liaise with citizens, amenity staff, and stakeholders is crucial to the delivery of a successful operation and enjoyment for all within the Civic Centre and throughout the city.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, as a Civic Centre Fountain and Event Staff, you are responsible for:

  • Civic Centre Animation and Activation including programming and spontaneous use
  • Monitor facility amenities and/or events to ensure compliance to policies and procedures for safety and security of attendees
  • Support the general public, tour groups, school users and other program users on proper use of amenities during spontaneous use and events with a high degree of professionalism and political acumen
  • Work includes responding to customer services demands on City Hall Plaza and the City Hall Fountain being a visible ambassadors for the City of Edmonton
  • Assists with program participation and with preprogram training courses, inservice programs etc., as required
  • City Hall School and Field Trips Run between September and May of the following Year
  • Provide City Hall School assistance for programming needs, including but not limited to, City Hall Tours, Art Tours, LRT Tours, Mock Council, Downtown Walking Tours
  • Assist programming partners with program materials such as signage, play/games equipment and ensure space is left better as it was found
  • Utilize and provide first aid expertise and skills as needed
  • Notify on site staff to resolve issues of cleanliness, safety, or customer service escalation
  • Respond to emergency situations and be prepared to activate emergency services when needed. Assist onsite security and other staff in emergency response by assessing and identifying security incidents and relaying information to onsite security. Completing incident reports using relevant information regarding emergency and security issues
  • Maintain statistics, record data on program areas such as participant numbers, the ongoing security of artifacts, facilities, art pieces and related equipment, and material usage and supplies inventory as required by supervisors
  • Provide minor ground maintenance and cleanup activities such as sweeping up debris, moving program materials such as fencing, garbage cans and signage. Setting up and taking down event materials
  • Perform additional duties as needed

Qualifications:


  • Completion of Grade 12, with an emphasis on experience in working with the general public, tour groups, children and other program users
  • Experience in Customer Service, Public Education, Children's Programming or Hosting Events
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with program users and staff as required
  • Basic knowledge of recreational program objectives as well as policies and procedures related to departmental involvement with it
  • Ability to lead, organize, instruct and supervise group activities in accordance with designated program requirements
  • Skill in the use of material and equipment used in programs
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certificates
  • Hire is dependent Upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
