GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Weekend Child & Youth Program Worker contributes to the planning, development and implementation of age-appropriate activities and events on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for participants ages
13 to 29 of diverse cultures, and from low-income families.
The Child & Youth program is developed and planned by the Program Coordinator and supervised by the Manager to ensure high quality social, recreational and educational programs at our 349 Ontario Street location.
This position reports to Manager, Child and Youth Services and is part ofCUPE Local 7797.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Collaborates with the Weekend Youth Program Coordinator and Manager to plan and implement stimulating, creative, agespecific, social, educational and recreational activities based on the needs of youth ages 13 to 2
- Offers culturally specific programming that is sensitive to the diverse ethnocultural backgrounds of the youth.
- Provides leadership and is a role model.
- Maintains excellent communication and positive relations with program participants and their family members.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mature and responsible with 23 years previous program planning and implementation experience working with youth ages 13 to 29 in a social, educational and recreational program.
- Must be able to demonstrate skill as an instructor and have experience in facilitation, mentoring, and programming for youth including recreational sports (i.e. basketball and floor hockey) and educational workshops.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in delivering programming in at least three of the following areas: music, drama and /or visual art, employment and education, sports and cooperative games, computer programming and social media, arts and crafts, baking and cooking, environmental awareness.
- Experience working in a team environment with a solid understanding of learning and development, behaviour management concepts and support to youth from diverse, lowincome communities.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and crisis intervention with youth.
- Commitment to principles of antioppression that is selfreflective, nonjudgmental and demonstrates experience working with diverse cultures and communities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal); ability to speak a second language would be an asset.
- Computer skills and the ability to prepare reports, schedules, and flyers.
- Experience working with African-Canadian youth would be an asset.
- Current First Aid/CPR
