First Canadian Health Management Corporation (FCH) has an exciting opportunity for a professional Payroll Specialist.

FCH is a 100% First-Nations owned and operated company, providing services to Indigenous People and to companies committed to Indigenous Communities.

We are hiring a Payroll Specialist who is passionate to work for an Indigenous company and to support our Human Resources Director in the delivery of service excellence.

The Payroll Specialist will lead the full cycle payroll processing and be the first point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees and external partners.


This role should directly contribute to building on our corporate mission and living the values of First Canadian Health and our external stakeholders and clients.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible & fully accountable for the payroll & audit function for all clients in multiple provincial locations
  • Complete full cycle processing of biweekly payroll for salary and hourly for approximately employees.
  • Calculate and prepare remittances for source deductions, garnishees, WSIB, EHT etc. Responsible for the preparation of T4, T4A, 1099s, and T2200s.
  • Performing all payroll processing activities to ensure an accurate payroll while maintaining the integrity of payroll data and payroll related records
  • Calculate manual payroll adjustments.
  • Responsible for scheduling and running the assigned client payrolls by following standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains complete, accurate and timely client and employee records based on real time requests
  • Support benefits administration and disability case management
  • Maintains complete and accurate client profile notes as well as processing instructions for each client
  • Balance respective payrolls based on year end calendar and remit all Third-Party Remittances by defined due dates, complete all Year End balancing, filing & respective reporting
  • Utilize all internal tools & defined processes to ensure optimal productivity, service excellence and make recommendations for best practices to business units and clients
  • Ensure knowledge transfer to internal supporting staff to develop Team collaboration of support of internal processes.
  • Performs quarterly & yearend audits including filing
  • Answer client and business unit calls and immediate requests for reporting
  • Provide critical and accurate statutory information to clients in the payroll area, such as tax filing. Use the various knowledge bases, resource materials and appropriate websites to locate answers and solutions for issues.
  • Work with internal business partners and technical support as needed to identify resolutions
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to business partners on issues, processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining CPA (Canadian Payroll Association) designation & attend all required training sessions to demonstrate proficiency in learning and knowledge share with the internal business partners
  • This would be an asset.

Qualifications:


  • 5 years of extensive experience with full cycle payroll processing. *Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec specifically
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Canadian employment law, payroll legislation and accounting principles.
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of ADP and Ceridian (or other payroll system) software is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with highly confidential, sensitive information in a professional manner.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs.
  • Have a strong work ethic and desire to continuously improve payroll processes
  • Able to work under pressure and find resolutions to problems
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Bachelor / certificate, an asset, or equivalent experience in administration / customer service / HR
  • Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) certification is an asset (PCP or CPM).

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skill set

$25.00-$35.00 per hour
