Position Overview:


NUVIA is currently recruiting for a
Junior Health Physicist to join our growing environmetnal remediation support team in the project in Port hope, Ontario.

The Junior Health Physicist (jHP) will provide Health Physics support to waste management and remediation field projects.

The jHP will work closely with our Health Physicists in the conducting radiation surveys, assessing radiological hazards, managing radiation protection (RP) equipment and developing and implementing RP plans.


This position will interact regularly with Health Physicist and Radiation Protection Surveyors, field crews and have some interaction with client stakeholers.


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Supporting multiple low-level radioactive waste remediation projects technically at the sites and supporting the field teams and project management.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory, calibration, distribution, and good working order of radiation protection instruments.
  • Overseeing and assessing radiation surveys, including providing assistance to radiation technicians at the remediation sites.
  • Preparing calculations for the shipment of lowlevel radioactive waste.
  • Support the project to complete work plans and deliverables.
  • Conduct radiation surveys of contaminated sites and assess radiological hazard.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of radiation protection plan.
  • Conduct radiological assessments of equipment and facilities.
  • Perform dose calculations and dose assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentations.
  • Provide technical support to project managers and other team members.

Skills / Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or a related field
  • 12 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of radiation safety principles and regulations
  • Experience conducting radiation surveys and assessments
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Have and maintain a valid class G driver's license

Special Requirements

  • Field work can involve temperature extremes and precautions will be taken when this is the case. Ability to stand upright and walk outdoors (sometimes in rugged terrain). Some limited working at heights may be required.
  • Must be capable of wearing PPE, including respirators if required.
  • Regular travel within Canada required.
  • Occasional international travel may be required.

$75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
