Patient Care Manager - Permanent Full-Time


As a member of the Management Team, the Patient Care Manager is accountable for leading initiatives and implementing change on the patient care floors with the goal of accountability, respect, excellent patient care, clinical best practices, and innovation.

The Patient Care Manager is responsible for the overall management of the patient care human, financial, quality, risk, and clinical resources that are required of the assigned patient care units to provide quality patient care.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Accountable for the overall day to day administrative, human resource, financial, and patient care management of the patient care floor.
  • Ensures organizational initiatives are completed in accordance with the strategic direction of Runnymede Healthcare Centre (Runnymede), applicable legislation, corporate policies, and collective agreements, and may be required to lead initiatives as assigned.
  • Accountable for ensuring corporate and patient care initiatives are accomplished, sustained, measured, continuously monitored, and evaluated.
  • Keeps the Director of Patient Care abreast and informed of any issues, concerns occurring on the patient care units via verbal and or written reports in a timely manner.
  • Ongoing, daily communication with SOPLs, APNs, and Patient Care Administrators (PCA) to ensure that the patient care floor operations are seamless, clear and effective.
  • Identifies potential risk and safety issues and problem solves to resolution; escalates were necessary.
  • Embraces change and acts as a positive change agent.
  • Acts as a role model and coaches and mentors staff to function productively and cooperatively as a team.
  • Fosters the development of nursing staff through partnerships with others.
  • Attends Patient Family Council Meetings representing Patient Care Management.
  • Hires, manages, and conducts performance reviews according to Runnymede policies and collective agreements.
  • Fosters effective labour relations through understanding and implementation of collective agreements
  • Accountable for monitoring, controlling the budgets and resource utilization at the unit level and monitors and reports on variances in budget and patient care statistics.
  • Assumes a leadership role in emergencies, hospitalwide issues, crisis situations (e.g. Code Blue, etc.).
  • Performs oncall administrative duties as assigned
  • Baccalaureate Degree from a recognized university. Master's in nursing, Health Administration or Health Related Field Preferred.
  • Member of a Regulated Health Profession in good standing
  • 5 years' clinical experience in an Acute Care or Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing Care Hospital required
  • 3 years recent managerial or leadership experience preferred
  • Active involvement in own continuing education and professional association
  • Proficient with Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families
